Hello all! I've been lurking on this site for a few days now and have decided to join in on the fun. I recently got my first Saturn after getting into the retro gaming scene a few months back.
Growing up in the age of Nintendo versus Sega has had a major affect on what I spend my free time doing. It's granted me a life-long addiction to video games. During the Sega and Nintendo wars of the early to mid nineties, I read about how this future machine from Sega would re-write the book on home consoles. I stood by my Sega Genesis and anxiously awaited this new system. Then something weird happened, this black mushroom thing came about. It went in your Genesis and played games like Doom and Virtua Fighter. I bought into the marketing and had an awesome Christmas '94.
Then the Saturn specs came out, as well as screen shots and eventually the price. I figured my 32X was enough to call myself a 32-bit gamer. My friend's father had bought him a Saturn at launch. I was in absolute awe of the graphics and the smoothness of the games. But being all of 14 years old at the $400.00 might as well have been $4,000,000. I knew the system was out of my reach.
I eventually got a PSX near the end of it's life cycle in 1999, the Saturn was a distant memory, and besides, Sony had Gran Turismo. After graduating to a PS2 and eventually a PS3, I had a realization nearly 3 months ago. I wanted to play old games on old systems. I missed my Genesis and 32X dearly, thinking I still had it, I tore though every nook and storage spot in the house to come up empty. I must have lent it out or sold it I guess. After buying new systems and some games I thought about something. A thought that I had been storing in the back of my mind for a LONG time. I wanted a Sega Saturn.
I won mine on eBay for a whooping $38.00. a FAR cry from the unobtainable at 14 years old $400.00 It's a MK8000, but hey, its a Saturn. It's MY Saturn. ;D
I bought one game so far (F1 Challenge) but hope to discover many more titles soon. I plan on getting the Action Replay cart so I can play some imported games as I've heard that that's the real strong point of this system.
I apologize for the long into, but when I get passionate about something, I tend to open up a lot. It's great to be here. I hope to learn a lot and maybe make some new friends in the process as well.
