Hi everyone My name is Tom and I became a member of the Sega Saturn owners club just over a couple of weeks ago when I managed to acquire a console a couple of weeks ago. I now have every sega console something I have been looking to achieve for quite some time! The Saturn however is the one console I had never played before! Looks like a lively place to chat about everything Sega and other subjects. Looking forward to interacting with you all.

Hello fellow Ninja I reckon you're what a foot soldier looks like without there mask on! I'm currently on my Wii at the moment playing Xenoblade Chronicles. 82 hours in. Probably got another 40-50 hours to go if I do it properly. Best Japanese Role Playing Game I've played in years. Thoroughly recommend it. I own a PAL Sega Saturn. What decent platformer would you recommend I buy first? The console I bought only came with Sports games.

Other platformers that are Saturn 'staples' include the likes of the Clockwork Knight 1 & 2 and also Bug & Bug Too. Note, the sequels to both franchises cost more than the 1st iterations. I'm sure there are some other recommendations to (like Pandemonium perhaps?) but I'm afraid I'm not a 3D platforming guy. I only like the 2D stuff - preferably weapons based where possible Thanks for the heads-up re: Xenoblade Chronicles. I have a dear friend who is mainly into RPG's and Arcade Flight Sims (think Ace Combat, Deadly Skies, HAWX etc) and, to date, he feels Xenoblade is quite easily one of THE best RPG's he's ever played. I don't play RPG's personally, but I always keep abreast of what's what. The closest I ever get to playing anything remotely RPGish is the Shenmue & Yakuza series, both of which, are amazing. WHAT SPORTS GAMES... came with your Saturn then? If it came with either Athlete Kings or Winter Heat, you're in good hands...

Hi Tom, The time for buying stuff is running out with the post becoming busy every day from now till xmas. Get your order in quick so you have a Merry Saturn one. Look out for Shinobi X at some point later on. Another nice platform romp. Grab some Sega Rally & Virtua Fighter 2 (Blue disc version of Virtua Fighter 2/ NOT the grey one as it lacks music on Lion's stage), should be cheap enough and keep you busy for AGES. A Saturn and these 2 games go without saying. BTW most of us do a bit of everything be it all Sega, Sony, Nintendo, Atari and the more obscure stuff from time to time. Your see the odd topic pop up now and then so your feel right at home I'm sure. See you around, Cheers!

The games I got with my saturn are listed below:- Virtua cop Daytona racing Virtua racing World series baseball World series baseball2 Virtua fighter Digital pinball Sim city 2000 Myst Euro 96 Sega worldwide soccer 97 Only had a chance to test the games worked at the moment. But did have a couple of hours at Virtua Cop which I enjoyed. No Athlete Kings or Winter Heat but thanks for the "heads up". If I see them floating around for a good price I'll be sure to grab them. Thank you both for your recommendations. I shall be hunting ebay sometime next year for some of those. I'll just exhaust what I have for now and then look for some new games in the new year. Shenmue I started that game last year and couldn't give it the time it deserved back then. Sometime soon I'm going to restart that. Only got about 7 hours in and then left it. Knew then it was an all or nothing game. Wasn't ready for it to take over my life! Along with all the Sega consoles in my "Games Room" I do have an Atari Jaguar. Look forward to hearing from people with one of those. Not used it much personally. Just picked one up cheap from a boot sale one year.

Small tip with Virtua Racing for Sega Saturn. Compared to the Megadrive, 32X and Arcade versions it will feel like the car does not steer properly and may come across as really strange... Indeed it has been totally remade from the ground up and is nothing like the originals by Sega, however if you let the gas off every time you want to steer your be tearing up the tracks in no time. Just a small gas off and steer in to corners and I'm sure your get even more out of it than first impressions might give without knowing this. Have fun.

Welcome aboard Tommyboy!! ;D As you can tell, it's a very lively and sociable forum around here, with lots to talk about besides Sega's often overlooked box of magic. Things normally start hotting up around Christmas here too, so expect plenty to talk about!! Anyway, you seem to have a good selection of games to get you started - nice one. On the subject of platformers though, unlike the earlier 8 and 16-bit platforms, there really aren't that many to choose from: Bubble Bobble - also featuring Rainbow Islands Bug Bug Too! Clockwork Knight Clockwork Knight 2 Croc - Legend of the Gobbos Earthworm Jim 2 Gex Johnny Bazookatone Keio Flying Squadron 2 Megaman X3 Mr Bones (Lots of platforming & tons of other game styles) Pandemonium Rayman Shinobi X Skeleton Warriors Sonic 3D - Flickies Island Sonic Jam (compilation of the MD games & 3D mini-level) Spot goes to Hollywood Tomb Raider Whizz Hope that helps buddy - Personally, I'd go for either Pandemonium or Rayman. Also, I'd recommend checking out any Saturn games you're interested in (Platformers or otherwise) with online reviews and Youtube - as it will give you a good idea what to expect (and more importantly - what's rubbish!!). Anyway, I hope you have fun around here.

Thank you all for your feedback. It is good to see a lively forum here I'll take the advice given on Virtua Racing I'm not expecting an awful lot from that one but hopefully it will turn into a decent racer. I usually prefer the arcade racers so I'm looking forward to Daytona I played Pandemonium on the PS1 and really enjoyed that. Might have to reminisce and pick that up soon. I do seem to remember that game being as hard as nails though! Right from the start as well. Usually with most platformers you get a gentle start!
