I've been rummaging around for some good run 'n gun-type games in the Saturn library, but my attempts have largely been stymied, so let's toss out "good" and simply opt for any game classifiable as a run 'n gun (2D, side-scrolling, platforming optional). As far as I know, we have:
Assault Suit Leynos 2 Elevator Action Returns Metal Slug Scud Silhouette Mirage (more or less) Wolf Fang (forced scrolling) Wonder 3 - Rooster (again, more or less)
Is that really it? Can anyone expand on this? What if we throw in some action/platformers with shooting elements or other projectile attacks (Earthworm Jim, Shinobi, etc.)?
The Genesis/MD absolutely slays at this genre, and lately it's become my preferred gameplay style, so it's a bummer to see the Saturn get so shafted by comparison.

Oh yeah, I burned a copy of that a while back; I forgot. So that expands the list a little, but it's still painfully short for a 2D powerhouse console.

Scud the diposable assasin is a wicked game. Reminds me a bit of vector man.
Gaphics are great , and you get two games in one either a run and gun with a control pad or
You can play the game whole game with a light gun and it become a 3d shooter.
I love ig and have had many good times playing .
Dont dimiss a game because you hear or see in a post that its rubbish because everyone has their own opinions and whats crap for them might be awesome for you.
OR AS THE SAYING GOES "DONT KNOCK IT TILL YA TRIED IT"

Actually, I completely agree. Case in point: Elevator Action Returns. Some clearly love it, but it made such a miniscule impact on me that I forgot the damn thing even existed when I made this thread.
I do intend on playing Scud eventually, regardless of others' opinions on it. I was just noting what I'd heard about it.
Wolf Fang looks interesting too. I remember coming across it randomly on Satakore before, but it didn't have any screenshots or videos (I hate when that happens) to tell me what kind of game it was. Watching videos now, it looks kind of like a mix-up between a run 'n gun and a shmup with the forced scrolling.
I'll go ahead and edit my list on the off-chance anyone wants a quick reference for these types of games.

Maybe Megaman X4 qualifies here? Very nice game. Just want to say that I love Elevator Action Returns. Reminds me of arcade days gone by. Scud not so much. Haven't tried it with the light gun though.

I have never played this game but damn, it looks good... YOU'LL BE HAPPY TO KNOW... it is good. Less Frank Hurt Baseball, Hi-Octane and Cyber Speedway - and more Elevator Action Returns in your diet! ;D

Earthworm Jim 2 is certainly not a traditional run & gun like Metal Slug, but it does contain running, the ability to shoot in any direction, a nice variety of weapons, and lots of bizarre enemies to gun down. Though, Earthworm Jim 2 also has a lot of levels that mix up the gameplay, often changing it completely, so you're really only running and gunning for about half the game. I'd consider it more of a run & gun than Shinobi though, that's for sure.

I never meant to claim that EWJ2 or Shinobi X were run 'n guns, I just meant to say that if the list of traditional run 'n guns was going to be incredibly short (like it is), I'd open the discussion up to any action platformers that involve shooting or projectile tossing.

Elevator Action looks positively amazing, I've played the original one but this saturn port is like a total reboot and total badass. Will look into importing this .
