So I finally got NiGHTS into dreams and am quite enjoying it, though I've been having one issue. When I screw something up in a level that's going to effect my score significantly, I'd like to be able to use a soft restart to quickly get back to the level select screen and try again. Though the usual soft restart button combination doesn't seem to work. Occasionally when I try to do a soft restart I get a message saying:
< DSS INFO > 00000***
Does anyone know what that means? And is there any way to do a soft restart or exit a level in NiGHTS when going for high scores?

Though the usual soft restart button combination doesn't seem to work... PRESUMABLY... you mean ABC+Start doesn't work? Sounds odd...

Though the usual soft restart button combination doesn't seem to work... PRESUMABLY... you mean ABC+Start doesn't work? Sounds odd... Well, that's embarrassing. I thought it was ABCXYZLR+Start! That combination seemed to work in other games (used it a lot in Rayman if I wanted to redo a level and conserve extra lives), but I never realized there was a much simpler button combination. ABC+Start works just fine in NiGHTS. Sorry for wasting time there. Regarding the DSS Info thing, after experimenting a bit I figured out a bit of it. I think the number of *s represents what level your on. For example, in Spring Valley it's 0000000*, in Splash Garden it's 000000**, in Mystic Forest it's 00000***, and so on. I'm not really sure if it means anything else. On an unrelated note, anyone else have an issue where occasionally when loading a level the textures on the kid will suddenly change to white and the game crashes? It's happened to me twice now, but each time restarting it seems to fix the problem. Is it just my disc?

YES, I'D SAY... it pretty much is, standard across the board. Usually A+B+C+START mid-game takes you back to the title screen and A+B+C+START at the title screen actually takes you back to the Saturns bios screen I think I've encountered the odd exception, but so odd I really can't remember them ;D ALSO, FYI... the exact same rules apply to the SEGA Dreamcast, except it's: A+B+Y+X+START It's a feature I really like in both consoles. - Namco did something similar in their PS1/PS2 games with Select+Start and Capcom used a similar combo in their PS1 games with L1+L2+R1+R2+Select+Start - although both will only ever take you back to the title screen. I remember Konami having one too (for PS1/PS2) but can't remember it off hand.

A process of elimination will help (2x Saturns and 2x Nights)

A+B+C+START is extremely useful. Think of it as having a back button as it tends to take you back to the previous selection menu/screen.
