Hey all.
I'm not sure if this belongs here or in another topic or even on these forums at all but I'm going to give it a go anyway.
I'm having a problem playing a few of my import games. I bought a Saturn from a friend and it came with an ST-Key cartridge to play import games. A few of them I've tried have worked like my copy of Nights and some other random games but others don't. They come to the meny screen and instead of the 'Start Application' option appearing, it only loads the sound track. Is there some explanation or solution to this? I wouldn't mind it so much but one of the games is Radiant Silvergun and I really want to play it again. Any help is most appreciated, thanks.

First off, what region is your Saturn? If you have a US or Canadian Saturn, most likely your Saturn isn't reading your ST-Key. The JP version of Nights is combatible with US/Ca Saturns, no import cartridge is needed. So the game will play regardless. RS however does need the ST-Key. In this scenario I blame the Saturn's poor cartridge slot. Fully insert the ST-Key and then pull it out about 2mm and try booting the system again. You may have to fiddle a bit, but it should work once you find the cart port's "sweet-spot."
If your Saturn is PAL region, this info won't help you.

Thanks for moving this topic to the right place.
I do have a US Saturn and I've tried what you said but no luck so far. I'll keep trying it though. If I do get that Action Reply 4-in-1 cart, would that work perfectly or would still have to fiddle around with it? And thanks for telling me about Nights.

Yeah, as superdeadite pointed out, Nights and a few other NTSC games are reigon free, there is a list at www.satakore.com. Clean the contacts on your cart and use some compressed air spay to clean out the cart port, insert cart and fiddle, reboot, etc, if this fails your ST-Key is knackered, it happens. Get the 4 in one which is a better product with more features, although they can have issues with a couple of games on early and JVC Saturn models.

I don't think it's broken or anything as I can play other import games that I checked on that site (Thanks for that) don't work on NTSC Saturns. I think I'll just buy a 4-in-1 cart though and see if that works. The model I have is an MK-80000A so would that work with them?

It's also worth noting that some popular Japanese titles wouldn't run on a Mark II NTSC Saturn at all which was never explained.
Something to consider if you buy a conversion cartridge is that some of them don't run memory intensive Capcom games properly, and some times not at all. They often have odd back-up memory software too ...
Why not get a Japanese / PAL Saturn depending on what games you want to get =/ ?
I own a "This Is Cool" Skeleton Saturn, one of only 50,000 produced, and it's a fantastic piece of kit and has an English language option too.

Yeah, titles like Sakura Wars 1&2 won't run on their own native MKII Saturn. Seriously.
There are a few other games, but their names escape me.
Not a huge issue =)

Yeah, titles like Sakura Wars 1&2 won't run on their own native MKII Saturn. Seriously. No way! I went and pulled out an NTSC mk2 model from storage, and tried those two games. And they both boot up and start fine -- both with a hard-wire switch mod I did on it, and also with a AR cart while in region 4 (US) mode (which would be identical to leaving it stock). I even played SW1 all the way through w/o problems on a US machine, though I admittedly can't recall for sure if that was on a mk2 machine. Do you have any reliable source for this info? I'd really like to read into it if it's true, as I'm really into the whole region-free stuff knowledge.

I also played ST1&2 on my US MK2 Saturn with a PAR many years ago and had no problems...
