So, I just put in Gold Pack 2 for the first time and played some Thunder Force 2 for the first time ever.... and I'm stuck....
What the hell do you do in the first level? I appear to be penned-in and have to lose a life to cross the walls?

I think there's something you destroy that opens up part of the wall. I can't remember what exactly, but just keep exploring and killing shit. You definitely don't have to suicide bomb a wall to get through.

ASSMAN IS RIGHT... pretty much. You just destroy some of the more prominent buildings from memory and in doing so, it opens up more of the level.
If in doubt, get on the YouTube train baby... WOOOOOO!

WOOOOOO! I remember before you tube you would have to ask your friends or play the game over and over trying anything to progress. In the end it was usually something you thought was in the background some pointless un relating action you needed to do.

Cheers guys. I have kinda figured it out. I think you need to destroy the base in the area then shoot a button to open the gate.
Unfortunately, Gold Pack feels abit rubbish. Hopefully ill change my mind after playing it a while.

GOLD PACK II... is definitely the better of the two, but that's just because it has the awesome TFIV on it. Gold Pack I is solid enough an offering though. Stick with it as TFIII is great PLEASE... bear in mind, and keep in context, you have just bought a compilation disc of Megadrive games here - not 2x SEGA Saturn shmups

Im fully aware these are Mega Drive games.
I chose Gold Pack 1 as it's cheaper and I already had Thunder Force AC on Mega Drive previously. I must say I really dont like the over-head levels at all.
Thunder Force III is good though, extremely difficult and I dont like how you can select the speed, I prefer a single speed or it's just too many options for me. Speed 2 seems best so I just stick with it.
