Just came across an interesting site that compares these two games. (And there are other good comparisons on there too, like VF2 vs. Tekken 3, etc) www.gamepilgrimage.com/LastBronxSoulBlade.htmSoul Blade got all the glory during its years (and the whole series, especially after the release of Soul Calibur), but I really do think Last Bronx was a game that matched Soul Blade in every way possible. I just had a really good time with that game. It's just somehow really satisfying to crack a 1-2-3 combo on your opponent with nunchakus as opposed to fists or swords (it seems like you should be DEAD if you did that with swords - one of the reasons why I like Bushido Blade on the PS. One hit kills with swords actually happen!)

I have to admit to playing soulblade a lot more than last bronx......all my friends at the time were ps1 players and they loved that game..........In fact I have never really met a true saturn addict face to face save one conversation in a games shop years ago........quite sad really (no, not me, the fact there are not as many sega fanatics around as I would like)

soul blade had awesome graphics and that intro.. *gasps*.... but too me it played a bit slow.
Last Bronx had great graphics too but I didnt think it was a step about VF2 though.. but the action, violence was satisfying and fast.

Has anybody managed to unlock the various hidden character images in Last Bronx that can only be accessed after completing the Saturn Mode under normal, hard and berzerk difficulty settings? I used to think that Virtua Fighter 2 was the hardest a game could get... until I discovered this one, that is!

more thread necormancy
i never really warmed up to last bronx in particulair there was nothing that really set it apart from the rest same standard 8 fighters to choose from same standard 8 back ground same standard arcade practise and survival modes nothing really that set it out from the pack other then weapons and frustration
not much incentive to play it more then once either i got it to never play again

I've never played Soul Blade, but I like it's sequel, Soul Calibur, for it's fluid character movement and easy to get into gameplay.
I loved Last Bronx back in the day - it's downright brutal, and the graphical and especially the sound effects really convey this. This is what made the game satisfying for me.However, these days I find this violence factor a little off-putting and the game feels a little stiff in the control department. Still, a great game.

By the time LAST BRONX came out you couldn't really just get away with a standard arcade port. Games like FIGHTERS MEGAMIX, VIRTUA FIGHTER KIDS and even TEKKEN 3 were really packed to the brim with extra content. The game engine is solid, but the game just feels incomplete, especially since we didn't get the bonus disc that the Japanese got. I think there is even a reference in the manual to that second disc that never was in the US. I remember calling SEGA about it when I bought the game as a kid. Still, upon playing it recently I'm still impressed with how it plays, but yeah, there just isn't anything there to hook you other than the novelty of using weapons with the VF2 engine.

I thought Last Bronx had the largest number of extras in any Saturn fighting games, excluding the large character roster of Fighters Megamix. The ending movies and portraits were a great addition to the game, and something I believe not seen in any other Saturn fighter previously (I can't remember what extras VF Kids had, although I remember being unimpressed with them). Last Bronx's training mode was decent enough as it was. The only thing PAL and US gamers missed out on from the bonus disc was the Aerial Training mode and apparently a decent amount of content from this made it into the English version.

i havent seen any extra's in last bronx beyond a few superfluous modes and the same bland roster but i must admit i dont play my pal last bronx very much there is a fracture in the spindle hole that creeps towards the cd it self so id rather not play it
