Shame nearly EVERY single platformer EVER made has them... Yeah, pretty much; it's a quick and easy way to add the pretense of difficulty. The thing is, I can accept them for the most part, just not when they stick them in every area of every level. On that note, why are so many unfathomably powerful video game characters apparently complaisant to the face of death when confronted with a little swimming? Even the more somber and "realistic" games tend to have moments of "oh, you just disappeared into an impossible abyss of nothingness lol sorry". I know that same argument could be made for a lot of other common elements in video games, but that one sticks in my craw, especially when the character has a health bar. What's the point of a health bar if you're gonna face a constant deluge of insta-deaths? Still, I think back to Alisia Dragoon; 0 bottomless pits yet hard as balls. It can be done.

I bought astal 2 months ago and sold it last week cause I didn't like it as I hoped I would. As much as I like the visual style of Astal,The games has a unfinished feel to it. The levels are empty, Lots of the same enemies, no secret paths just go straight forward and the Controls feel akward in hectic situations.
Rayman is so much more in every way. the visuals are nicer to look at and the gameplay feels a lot better to me (hard as F**ck though).

Neither game does much for me.

Quite surprised by the general consensus towards Rayman, in general. I've always thought as the original as a beautifully realised classic.
Similarly, will have to try out Astal at some point, just to get a proper opinion on it outside of YouTube vids...

For those unfamiliar with this game, rules are simple: choose one and state your reason as to which one you prefer. One thing I should stipulate is this is for the Sega Saturn version and not any other version. I owned Astal and don't remember ever working through the first level before becoming bored.... I played through Rayman years later but not on the Saturn.... I think Rayman was a fun platformer but I'd like to try Astal again before giving it to Rayman.
