Come one come all is my motto. I love a good game regardless of its sexual orientation! From Rayman to Sega Rally -- it's all good!
(I'm sitting on the fence for this one)

Yeah, I have to say i'm not really fussed if it's a 2D or 3D game, so long as it plays well.

Must be just me that prefers 2-d gaming to 3-d...... in the same way I prefer hand rendered anime (akira) to cgi (ghost in the shell) Guess I have some sort of a sprite fetish........ but, yes gameplay is paramount......
my fave games are 2-d
battle garrega sexy parodius twinkle star sprites batsugun game paradise soukyugurentai sengoku blaede streetfighter zero 3 x-men v's street fighter metal slug
I am feeling a bit of a codger here lads............

for me its games that combine both the 2D and 3D aspects of the Saturn. Grandia, Silhouette Mirage and Radiant Silvergun springs to mind ^_^
Well something had to give and I guess it was the 3D. If you look at the playstation I guess it did fantastic 3D but the 2D sucked compared to other 32-bit systems.
The saturn on the other hand does good 3D (although games like Sonic R, Exhumed, Quake, Shining Force III and Grandia show some Fantastic stuff that surpass the 'saturn is underpowered in 3D' comments) and then there's the fantastic 2D..
Basically imo the playstation was machine that excelled in 3D while the Saturn was an all rounder in 2D and 3D

Keeping with the gameplay is king vibe -- my all time favourite game is Golden Axe. By a country mile. In fact. I remember buying a Master System just to play it. (and being gutted at the actual gameplay -- but hey...!) Then the Megadrive version that kicked major gravitas. Finally I think I peed a little when it was announced that GA would be on the Sega Ages 3 game cart for the GBA I went to Las Vegas to get married in 2002, but hunted down the Sega Ages cart first, before I did anything while she slept off the jetlag in the hotel room. 2 D is the language that my all time favourite game talks. On the other hand, I'm a huge fan of racing games. The more realistic the better. Proper photo-realistic 3D and manual gear changes are my particular penchant where that's concerned. Forza 2, Colin McRae Dirt, even PGR 3. Then the in-betweeners - Ikaruga et al: what I'm trying to say in my bumbling fashion is that while I see perfectly well what you're saying, I just love my gaming. Take each on face value and even the clunkers can bring some kind of gaming gratification (The Crow and Incredible Hulk aside )

yeah, cool comments rossi...... driving games are definitley the better for 3d, and as you and digichan have pointed out some of the coolest games combine both 2d and 3d to great effect...... keep 'em coming.....

Games that get repeated play from me _generally_ tend to be 2D, but as many of you pointed out, if it plays well, I'll give it a go.

am I glad you said that termis, I was going down in flames ......
Kinda wish people had stayed away from the gameplay aspect on this one though..........I was coming from an eye candy angle on this really, pure aesthetics, style over substance, that sort of thing.........not to worry........

Ah. 2d it is then, for me. None of the Saturn games are that pretty. The intros to Gungriffon and Panzer Dragoon are outstanding, though. But I reckon you'd have to jump back a system to the Megadrive if you wanted eye-candy. Anything by the Bitmap Brothers fits that description nicely, for me. Gods especially.

Well, for me, 3D didn't really start looking great till the Dreamcast era or so. 3D games in Saturn and PS One games still looked pretty blocky most times.
For example, a game like Sega Rally doesn't look so hot IMO, but it plays well, so it still gets some love from me.
