Is there one? Is there plans by anyone to publish one? I'd snap up a dozen copies if it existed. I can only read Game Over - The Nintendo History by David Scheff so many times. Come on all you budding authors

The only books about gaming history I've really read are the full deal. I once owned Game Over, not the Nintendo one though. I loved it, and then it fell apart. Such shame, but oh well.

'High Score - The Illustrated History of Electronic Games' is excellent, if you can pick up a copy I highly recommend it.

I have a very cool Sega timeline chart mapping out all the Sega consoles released, when they were released, when they went defunct, what impact they had, etc in one of my Dreamcast magazines. Not the same thing as a book but still, it brings a tear to my eye to look back in to the past and know that I was there during some of the greatest moments in gaming history.

Electronic Plastic is my fave gaming book.....features all the cool 70's/80's japanese handhelds from nintendo, gakken etc....designed by BURO Destruct....it is a work of art! A truly beautiful and informative book on games costing so much you will never own them! That's why the book is so cool......although you can look but you can't touch, pity.

Just a thought, we could do one easy.....mick and I are both graphic designers and I specialise in editorial design for print. We are all enthusiastic enough and would have lots of stuff for pics and loads of background info..why not?
The ultimate saturn fans coffee-table book, complete with home set up pics, history, facts, screen shots, cover art etc.....
If you think this is a good idea lets make it happen people........

Hmmm...there are a few publishers who do this sort of thing, if it was ready to go, getting a deal would be no probs providing you had all the copyright issues sorted.....lots of research involved though!!!!!!

Count me in for some of that. I've wished for and fantasized about a Sega book for Years now. I've read and re-read the David Scheff Nintendo one so many times I could recite the thing in its entirety.
Let's do this.

I have a few contacts at Sega Europe as well as at a few of the developers that produced titles for the Saturn back in the day, so I could always go begging for favous lol

I am looking into the feasability of this..first thing is an outline of the proposed project, that can be pitched at a publisher..... as long as this impresses, the fact no other book exists is a real plus..then format, layout, design..... then the hard part THE TEXT. Someone needs to help write the history of sega in their own words verified and sourced correctly!!!!!! the text can be left till last as can the photography. the most important thing at a planning stage is a template or flexible grid that the pics and text can be dragged to.......lots of hours with In -Design then>>>>>>
mick and rossi have expressed an interest, any other potential contributors out there?

In Japan, there are a lot of this type of books. 2 of them are Sega Consumer History and Sega Arcade History Also, what type of book are you planning to do ? about Sega in general or about system + all the games released ? the latter will be huge! If you plan to do something about Saturn, count me in (but don't ask me to write reviews! )

I was thinking of a console fans/collectors overview with full history(inc arcade origins), really heavy on pics.

Incredibly, I briefly toyed with the idea of writing a book on the history of Saturn-era Sega a few years back, though in the end I settled on a fanzine/website project (which, for the record, is long overdue). I'm not doubting that such a thing is possible, but Sega is a complex beast and the author for such a massive challenge would have to decide whether they are focusing on the hardware/software side of things or more the internal politics that ultimately shaped (and ruined) many of the company's greatest ideas. Personally, I'd just love to write something more specific regarding the Saturn and its PAL releases, maybe in the form of a collectors' guide with a few key import titles, some unreleased games plus the many various peripherals briefly mentioned as well - does that seem feasible or even desirable?
