I find it funny how over here it's dismissed as the British equivalent of baseball. I bought into that comparison myself until I read a cricket novel by one of my favorite authors. Any time the book went into describing a match, I was totally at a loss. Okay, I followed (1)the players try to hit the ball, and (2)the team with the most points wins. Other than that I couldn't find any similarity to baseball. (Still enjoyed the novel, though, despite not being able to understand the actual cricket bits.)
A cricket game for the Saturn by Codemasters sounds interesting. Shame it never came about.
There are definite similarities between both sports. If you consider obvious things outside of the differences:
A batter
A bowler/pitcher
Fielders
Running between batting
Maximum points automatically awarded for batting outside the confines of the stadium (Homerun or a '4' or a a '6'.)
Teams of batters and bowlers
Various different bowling/pitching techniques designed to catch the batter out etc
If the ball is caught without bounce off bat, then the batter is "out"
Plus more probably...
They're not massively indistinct from one another. But they are different too
Also, I was merely hypothesising with regards to a Codemasters/Brian Lara Cricket title for the Saturn. I've NEVER even heard of such a game existing, but based on other stories you hear regarding unfinished titles (i.e. Destruction Derby 2 on Saturn, Colin McRae 2.0 for DC etc) then such a tale wouldn't surprise me...
