...is amazing. =D.
Finally got it working after a scratch repair at Virtual Games.... ....and oh my(!). ^_^ How I enjoy the rollercoaster-effect of moving gracefully through the town, the many cut scenes, the minimal effort (I can play this game with one hand whilst eating)...the cinematics, the interactive movie experience, ...yet still at the back of my mind am thinking about the logic puzzles of what items I ought to put where, and what I need next, and for where, and how to get there in this amazingly disorientating town, I am slowly learning. =)
Magic.
I can'tthink of a PS3 or 360 game that comes close. Why spend ages controlling your character in full 3D, when you can simply hit "forward" and watch yourself swoop over bridges and into forests? Beautiful...
xx
My first day's play was today, and am utterly captivated.

Sounds intriguing. I never played it fist time round - might be worth tracking down.
Any screens/vids?

There are some videos of it on Youtube. Search for Torico, or it's US title, Lunacy. However, my experience of the game was short lived. I tried to play it again today, but it wouldn't load again. =P Just like it was before the scratch repair. I dunno if it's the game CD, or if my Saturn is on the way out....a quick go on a recently bought second hand copy of Myst the other day, and the screen froze and a CPU error flashed up on screen....something to with a CPU address error....=(. Thought it was just the game playing up, but then when I went to put Torico back in today,it wouldn't load. So maybe my Torico disk is just scratchy, as NiGHTS still loads fine, but, for now, I can't get Torico to start again. =( Waaah.....

Hooking the Saturn up to the TV for the first time in several months, I finally put this game in for another play last night. I'd forgotten how much of Lunacy's challenge is simply finding your way around; aided by the town map I drew up on my first playthrough, I was able to whip through most of Disc 1 in a single sitting.
The atmosphere still impresses. One thing I'm taking particular note of this time is how the music doesn't always change when a cutscene begins. It makes it feel more like the cutscenes and gameplay part of one seamless interactive movie rather than discrete segments.
I love the eerily odd dialogue, too. I still wonder whether this was a bad translation or if it's equally bizarre in the Japanese version.

It's good for a single play-through if your in the mood for some FMV. I enjoyed it. but it's very short. Love the visuals and atmosphere the colours create though!

For those interested, I might just have a spare copy of (Gekka Mugentan) Torico listed in my upcoming "Virtua Car Boot Sale: Winter Special Edition" thread along with some other similar games, Saturn peripherals and related hardware... watch this space!

This is one of the 20 games I am missing in my collection. Shame. One day I will be able to afford it.

Definitely one of my favorite titles! I might have to give this another whirl sometime soon. Worked flawlessly on SSF.

This is one of the 20 games I am missing in my collection. Shame. One day I will be able to afford it. So Lunacy/Torico is a big ticket item now, too? Man, what is happening to the Saturn library? I got up to Disc Two last night and saved Rose and Hal for the first time. It's funny how easy it is; you don't even need an additional item. But when you're on a first playthrough and so don't know that characters can alternately die or be saved, it's not at all obvious that you're supposed to do something there. I saved Mac and Hannah too. Now I just need to figure out what to do to get the good doctor out of there... A funny thing. I remember that I saved two people on my first playthrough. I also remember that I saved Mac, and did not save Rose and Hal. But I can't remember whether the second person I saved was Hannah or the doctor. I think it was Hannah, but I'm not sure. Maybe it'll come back to me when I see the end sequences.

Yeah martiniii, last time I checked Lunacy was about $80 and Torico is anywhere between $60-80 for the PAL release. Japanese copy runs you into about $15. It's a shame I can't break the cycle and be OK with just collecting Japanese titles.

Just as I teased before, my PAL copy of Torico is now available in the "Virtua Car Boot Sale: Winter Special Edition" thread for only £15 - what good is there inflating the prices to eBay standards?!
