I never played the arcade version of Daytona USA so here's an unbiased view on both versions for the Saturn for you guys:
While the framerate and graphics are much better in the CCE, it's lacking fun value. I can't get into the CCE. It loses the arcadish feel and replaces it with a very cheap while trying to be realistic feel instead. I also prefer the soundtrack in the original much more as well (though don't get me wrong, I did like the soundtrack in both). The original has that "Just one more go!" feeling I get every time I play it (I'm bloody addicted to it right now!) while I can't even play through a single full race in the CCE before turning off my Saturn from boredom. CCE is lacking the charm the original had. It needed more "Sega Cheese".
I hear people complain about the poor framerate and how poor of a port the original was from the arcade, but if you're like me and you haven't played the arcade version, you probably won't be bothered by it. I think the game plays and looks just fine.
Believe it or not, but I like the original Daytona USA even more than I like Sega Rally. Honestly. Now if you'll excuse me... "DAY-TON-AA, LETS GO AWAY! DAAY-TOOO-NAAAAAA-----..." ;D

^ Yeh and if you'd ever played the Arcade version you'd also know that the original Saturn port kept that Arcade feel of the original in graphics (although a little choppy) , Sound and Handling. The CCE version had wierd looking graphics a very poor soundtrack and the feel/handling of the Arcade version was completly lost.
I played both versions back to back today and the CCE version doesent have much sense of speed whilst the original port does. I like you could not even complete a race on CCE without getting bored and turning it off!

I've only got Daytona CCE and put it on last night for the first time in a while. As I've never played the original Saturn version then I can enjoy the game for what it is - a decent paced racer.
The graphics are good. I didn't really notice the sound to complain about it. Generally I dont pay too much attention to in-game music (unless it's Outrun's of course). However 'Sons of Angels' on the intro is pure cheese - which is exactly what an arcade racer should have.
The controls are a bit dodgy. The first course (777 Speedway) is fine as you can take everything a full speed. However courses with sharper bends and hairpins seem seem to be very difficult to negotiate. One lap you skid round them quite well, next lap you seem to be into the wall.
I find CCE fun to play, both in arcade mode and racing my ghost car in time attack. Maybe people who don't like it are comparing it to the original version too much. Speaking of which I'll add that to my ebay 'wanted' list.

I don't know about slagging the handling in Daytona 2001 - it can be adjusted quite a bit in the options (which is more or less required if using a pad). By all accounts it's great with a wheel.
I love Daytona on the DC but I'm crap at it.

Yeah, and to be honest, Daytona 2001 with a wheel actually plays more like the Arcade version than Saturn Daytona - still nothing like it, but closer to the actual thing. Although 2001 does control crapilly with a pad, compared to the Saturn version. Sega really need to get of their ass and make a decent port Or we'll all just have to buy the Arcade machine

cce in my opinion altho the graphics were cleaner, lacked the speed, fun and atmosphere of the original, much prefer the original
the dreamcast version kicks ass tho, didnt see what all the fuss was about the handling, it was spot on(and i didnt mess around with any sensitivity)

I think the problem with the dreamcast version is most people weren't playing it properly, you'll notice if you say, tap the analog nub left or right, the car starts to go out of control.
But if you point it up and play it like a wheel, it plays fine.

I finally played Daytona CCE and it really feels much different than the original, but it's a good thing, there's a reason to have both Daytonas. It's also much more challenging and I like it. I agree about the music, it sucks, the only track that's good is Let's go away remix, other songs- crap. The graphics are good though the pop-up/draw-distance is sometimes worse than in original Daytona, especially the Pit Stop "area" on the Three Seven Speedway...

Buy the Japanese version of CCE - it has the original rubbish music, and the remixed music, which also happens to be rubbish.
