I really like the game. The Saturn version was indeed my first experience so I can't really comment on previous versions. It just feels really random and epic. The music and sound effects are pretty good too.

I haven't played any Castlevania, other than trying it for a few minutes on NES and SNES, but I bought this game a few weeks back. Hope it will be good for the money I paid lol

It's definately worth the money if you were already a SOTN fan. I ordered it too and am waiting for it in the mail.

I played through the game a month or so ago, with no prior knowledge of the game. The two parts of the game I needed to seek help with was the Jewel of Open and being able to open chamber in the upside down Clock Tower room. I must admit, taking the whole fanboyism out of the equation the PSX version is better. Despite all the extra's the Saturn version has. It has worse frame rate and graphics, as well as slower loading and not being able to pull out the map like you can with the PSX version is frustrating. However, I think this is more down to it being a lazy port, and would certainly have been a better game had real care and attention been put into it. If anyone was a big fan of the PSX version, then the Saturn version may well interest them.

Yes, I know the PSX/PSP versions are the best ones. But the bonus stuff is cool if you played those versions to death. If you play the Saturn version first tho, then you won't appreciate the extra stuff as much I think.

I own and have played both all the way through. I can say with confidence that I still prefer the Playstation version due to minimal load times, smooth frame rate, easy access of the map, and the menu opens and closes instantaneously.
The Saturn version is still worth your time for two new areas not available in the PS1 version as well as being able to play as Richter or Maria right off the bat. The load times and disc loading menu however were a turn off for me.
The truth is the Saturn version wasn't directly ported by Konami themselves, but allegedly by a low tier programming team within their own building, failing to utilize transparency, manually stretching the screen size resulting in pixel distortion, and unnecessary load times, and we all know the Saturn is a 2D powerhouse so there's no excuse for this. Had it been ported properly, it would've been without doubt the definitive version of the game. Despite all this though, it still didn't stop me from enjoying the game for what it is.
