Hello, I have a question about a Japanese Saturn I bought a few months ago concerning a strange requirement for input of the A B and C buttons to be registered. In order to make selections in many games, one of the shoulder buttons must be pressed in order for the input to register. My first guess was that this was just a strange decision that the developers of the hardware made, but certain games show problems that you could never suspect as intentional.
For example, if I play Mega Man X4, the game requires for me to hold down one of the shoulder buttons at all times, otherwise a screen will appear telling me that the controller has been disconnected, that is until I press a shoulder button. This only shows up in game play and not in the menus of this particular game. Another game that is wonky is Cotton 2, which requires me to hold a button otherwise it will pause. If I have an Action Replay cart in, the controls will act similarly but with the addition of scrolling down the menus even when no buttons are pressed.
I haven't come across any information on the internet that references any of these problems, so I was hoping to hear if anyone has had similar problems. The controller is a Japanese grey model 1 type along with the system. Thank you.

Have you tried a different controller preferably one that you know works correctly? I have both of those games although MMX4 is the US version and neither have that issue. I play Cotton 2 on my gray Japanese Saturn with no issues as well.

I don't have another controller to check but I'll probably order one soon. It would be nice if that's all it is.

I'm not sure about Coton, but I can say for sure that this is not the case for Megaman X4, you do not need to press the bumper buttons for it to work, I think your controller might be busted.
