The cheating option may make the game boring for you and that's fine, but with that said, if people want to cheat it I think it's okay. In other words, I don't think it compromises the fun of the experience. Beating an arcade game in one go takes a lot of dedication, and most gamers have plenty of titles on the back burner already, so they may not want to dedicate that sort of time. I think cheats offer a very valuable service. Without them, realistically, just a small amount of very good and dedicated players, are going to be able to see the end of these games. As far as I'm concerned, if you own the game it's yours, and you should get as much enjoyment out of that game as you can.
You hit the nail right on the head. For me it's the time factor. I have other games on the back burner so dedicating such grinding focused time to certain games can certainly be a chore especially if you've already completed the game.
I don't use cheats for Vs Fighters as it's one of the genres I can say I'm exceptionally skilled at. Although playing as Apocalypse on X-Men vs Street fighter can be a lot of fun especially after you exhausted every tag team combination.
The cheats are mainly for other games like Exhumed and Resident Evil. Having completed those games a few times before without the aid of cheats, there were few secrets, unlocks and alternative passages and items I may have failed to collect on my way to completion. The thought of slogging through those games AGAIN just to see the tid bits you missed can be torture, especially for a game like Exhumed, which was a very challenging and intense experience the first time round. With the cheat codes it gives you that extra incentive to do the grind again and explore the unexplored. It'll be small things I'd tamper with. For example I'd replay Exhumed with infinity ammo e.t.c
Also for games like Radiant Silvergun and Darius Garden where unless you've turned on some mega weaponary via cheat codes you'll never get to the end and appreciate how beautiful those games truly are.
