You're right that Wii and PS1 have huge numbers of games that basically no-one wants any more, as they sold in humungous numbers. A local retro shop has a whole wall of PS1 shite ( Austin Powers, Barbie) he'll hardly ever sell, plus a much smaller shelf of good stuff.
I suppose i was referring to the collectables and the top games on the Wii. Things like Metroid Trilogy and Xenoblade are already surpassing their RRPs. Of course, My Little Pony Fairy Dance Cup Cake Extravaganza will always be in the bargain bin. If not an actual bin.

I think the window on easy pickings for Wii games at retail will close this year, if it hasn't closed already. The Wii sections of shops were the first thing I would gravitate to as I had been able to get 3 good games for £10 or less on several occasions but the choice has worsened as has the condition of a lot of these games lately. I think most normal people (as opposed to us weirdoes) have gotten rid of their Wii stuff by now and even more 360 and PS3 games will take their place on store shelves. There will always be ebay but I am glad I got everything I wanted already in a setting where I could check the disk for scratches before I bought it and without postage costs. Now is the time for filling in those 360 and PS3 collections. Loads of great games available for £2 to £4. Other than a few games that will gradually trend towards £100 like Fire Emblem and Xenoblade Chronicles I think the Wii will always be easy to collect for. It's the Wii U you need to be worried about.

Atm there's about 470 Wii U games available on disc (Wikipedia numbers so take with a grain of salt.) and assuming Nintendo kills the Wii U when "NX" is close to release (which seems likely), there'll be approximately 500 retail titles to collect; fewer if people want to stick to a single region (like me). I've got about 60 so far and i've got my eyes on a copy of Hello Kitty: Kruisers. Awwwwwww yeeeeeah!

I didn't even know that game existed. I think I need a Wii U now. I wanna play some Diddy Jank Racing.

I just picked up Hello Kitty Cruisers myself last week for $15 at Gamestop. Its starting to rise quite a bit in price. Im guessing that its the same in the UK PAL market.
Its supposed to be a terrible IOS conversion game but its limited numbers make it collectible. Im a big WiiU fan. Like ive said before it has the Saturn feel in that Nintendo is sorta trying to kill it off, sweep it under and move to the more well built system.

Wii U stuff does seem to be vanishing from most big retailers' shelves rapidly these days , with just a small section left in specialist shops like GAME. Very reminiscent of 1998 for Saturn.

Same with the Vita but even deader. Anyone intending to build a collection for either of those systems on the cheap is going to be disappointed. Funny how Amiibos get way more shelf space than the Wii U does. All I "own" for my Vita are PS+ games because even in death all the games are holding their value.

In the US the Vita is still getting strong support in the niche market. Our biggest game retailer, Gamestop, still has a healthy Vita section. They are supporting it enough to keep it relevant. Are you guys not getting the same JPRGs and other JPN niche stuff? Seems every couple weeks something comes out for it here in physical form. I kinda wish Gamestop had the same weight back in 1997 as they do now because I could have seen them publishing some late Saturn titles themselves. They did this with late Wii titles.

I have a fair share of physical games for the Vita , though I must admit even to me the console seems pretty much dead and only a few stores actually still sell vita's and its games. Just put over a 100 hours In trails of Cold Steel and -though it was not without faults - really enjoyed the game. P4G and little King story were also nice titles. In general I still think the console is a lot better than the 3DS , just wish the same applied for the games.

We'll get some recent games like EDF2 and Trails of Cold Steel but for the most part no we don't and what does come out you will never see at brick and mortar retail. In my experience at CEX and Game stores in London you won't see more than about 10 Vita games, all second hand of course, in a given shop. I went into a CEX yesterday that only had 3 Vita games and two of them were Little Big Planet. It's even worse than 1998 Saturn. I have a fair share of physical games for the Vita , though I must admit even to me the console seems pretty much dead and only a few stores actually still sell vita's and its games. New stock ran out everywhere a few months ago and Sony are not replenishing. They didn't even care enough for the system to have stock available for Christmas! I got a (comparatively) inexpensive Asian Vita instead.

Thats interesting to see. While its technically dead here in the US as Sony disowned it before last summer, alot of those NIS and localization companies are making releases for it mostly for Gamestops shelf. Working Designs, now Gajin Works, is even likely to start localizing for Vita. But the Vita will only go as far as Japanese companies will allow it. If they stop, its over. Sony still released the MLB Baseball game last year for it but rumors are no version is coming this year sadly.
