Thought Id share this as its a fun story 18 years ago when I was about 12 I still remember asking my parents for Croc for Xmas 1997. I also remember asking for a few other games. I ended getting Quake Saturn that Xmas which is the one I wanted the most. However I joked with my parents this year when they asked for what I wanted. I said Im pretty into Saturn these days. They know I collect for the system. I joked that I still remember asking for Croc in 1997 and I never got it but at the same time I told them I got the game I wanted anyway. So I told them yeah Croc for Saturn is #1 on the Xmas list. Croc believe it or not I still have yet to play all these years later. Just haven't gotten around to it. But I love platformers and always wanted to. Low and behold we exchange gifts today on Xmas eve with the family and I unwrap a BRAND NEW copy of Croc Saturn. My mom grabbed one cheapish off Ebay ($35-40). Considering its a sealed Saturn game the price is perfectly fair. I couldn't believe I was actually unwrapping a New Saturn game 18 years later. Its like I was 12 years old again. Crazy enough I got that kid like feeling again wanting to play it. And if you were wondering, ya Im opening it Its one of those games where the experience of opening a new Saturn title on Xmas is worth doing. Not rare enough of a game to worry about. So funny 18 years later and Im just as excited to play it

Hope you're ready for a tough one! I remember playing the game back in 1998 and I just couldn't get a handle on the camera. In all fairness, it was the first 3D platformer I'd ever played, and my brother managed to get fairly close to the end of the game, but Croc does have a reputation as being extremely hard. I still have my copy of the game and have long been thinking about revisiting it with my now much greater experience and persistence, but somehow I've never had quite enough enthusiasm for it.

I admit I did play about a level of it 10 years ago or so when I came across a disc only. I do remember the camera and controls being a bit of an adjustment however those things were commonplace in 3D platformers at the time. I have no problem with adjusting to it.
Im excited to finally give it a proper play though as I love seeing the Saturn do 3D polygon games. And we also didnt really get any 3D platformers so Croc sorta stands alone on the system. But I remember reading the review in Gamepro alot for the Saturn version and it basically getting near perfect scores. Probably why I originally asked for it for Xmas.
I opened it last night. Its probably the first time I opened a new Saturn game literally since I opened my copy of Quake in 1997. I may have popped open a sealed sports game since then for the purpose of case replacement though.

Wow a new, and sealed Croc, that is impressive. Good job on the gift! I personally liked Croc myself though found it funny that the head wouldn't appear unless you loaded the saturn via the bios first.. unless that is just a "my console" thing... :S

That's pretty awesome. I'd love to be able to receive new Saturn games as gifts.
I like Croc too (although it certainly has issues), and it is an unique game on the Saturn. Is it the system's only 3D platformer? I'm guessing it is in the west.

Kin Ninja Jajamaru-kun and quite a few others but the best 3D Platformer for Saturn imo would be Ninpen Manmaru. Can't get enough of that game. That's a great story xDerekRx Pretty cool they were able to find you a brand new one as well, can't be too many of those floating about.

Even back in the day, though, a lot of people questioned the Bug! games' designation as 3D platformers, since you can never move in more than 2 dimensions at a time. They're more 2D platformers where the gameplay plane is rotated visually. At any rate, they're definitely not 3D in the same sense as Croc or Burning Rangers. (Or Nights, when you're playing as the human characters.)
