Hmm, I don't personally think that looks on par with a CRT but difficult to tell from that video. How does it do on the drop shadow/spite flicker test? I think you'd need to go back way earlier than 2008 to find a TV that had basic enough deinterlacing not to screw 240p up. I'll have to try that. I'm currently out of the country on work and won't see my Saturn till April but will have to look at that drop shadow/spite flicker test when I get back. I'm no technical savy and can only really comment on what I experience. But you are correct that the video in my link isn't really doing the quality of the TV justice. The Fire Pro CPU demo is running at 200% Speed so it might looked blurrred when in actual fact that's not the case at all. Plus I always set my TV for games on maximum colour and maximum sharpness so that could be a factor. The TV could've been made before 2008 as I bought it from a Cash Converters so wouldn't have any idea when it's original production date was or how long they had them for. But what I remembered is when I connected my Saturn up to it (I tested it with Nights into Dreams) it looked stunning, then I instantly loaded my Saturn back up to my CRT and it didn't look half as good as the Acoustics Solutions. The quality was so good it was worth loosing the ability to ever use my Virtus Lightguns again, so I dashed the old CRT and never looked back. The picture quality got even better when I done away with my old RGB Cable and bought one from Rob Webs ConsoleGoods store a few years back. That's when the quality truly wowed me. Funny thing is, I've been wanting to upgrade to a bigger TV (maybe 50 inch) for years now but the only thing that stops me is fear of loosing the amazing picture quality I currently enjoy with my Acoustics Solutions. I hear all these stories about HDTV's being bad for retro consoles and that makes me think twice about doing away with it.

The Scart looks good on my HD LED 40" Samsung so it must a have a good scaler built in but it looks even better if I use my Scart to HDMI converter it really cleans up the jaggy Scart edges. This the Scart to HDMI converter I use and its much cheaper than a XRGB-mini Framemeister which I guess is the ultimate way to play retro games on a HD TV.

Sorry but that looks ghastly IMO. I agree the Mini is a great scaler, certainly not without its flaws though. That little scaler is okay but does have a lot of issues especially when things move or with shadows etc, you get that weird lines effect (see image below)

"Sorry but that looks ghastly IMO." Yes I know it has those jaggy edges but the colours look good and there's no ghosting or lag, I just have the space for a CRT. I haven't played a Saturn on a CRT since the 90's I only got one again last year. I haven't noticed it before i'll have to keep an eye out for that, Cheers.

There's always lag, you just don't always notice it. Even with XRGBs and things, lag is just a fact of life with modern TVs.

Lag is also caused by games too.

lol, I should say it Helps clean up those jaggy edges.Obviously you get a better result with a scanline generator or CRT. I don't have either, I'm just saying about the best way to connect a Saturn to a modern TV if that's all you have.

I always thought I was easily pleased, if I were to setup my Saturn to a HD I'd probably not notice anything, I'm like a child when it comes to these things, oblivious to everything, you're looking at the guy who in his silly little childhood went for years thinking Sonic '06 was a competent finished masterpiece with a compelling story and slick gamepla-HAHAHAHA
But since I'm always such a sucker for retro and I have a CRT I would probably start there, either way some of these alternative TV's and devices are really interesting and it helps to know I have so many choices! So funny, when I first started this post I was just wondering how to plug the damn thing in without it blowing up, but once again the helpfulness of everyone on this forum has gone above and beyond here! Seriously cool

Are we replying with only reaction faces now? Did this place suddenly become 4chan?
