Hey guys! Thank you for the great web site that seems still active. I've had my Saturn since the early 2000s and have always loved it. I recently purchased Burning Rangers ($250 eBay) and Astal. Still waiting for them to arrive! Can't wait to play BR after all this time. Man, I wish I got it when they were $35 on eBay...

Tell me about it, I bought this and other games like Panzer Dragoon Saga for retail prices back in the day! Sadly I don't have my original collection any more, I'm working on rebuilding it again.

solbad welcome to the forum. Where are you located by the way?
Great 2 pickups to start with. Ill assume you are from the US and got an Astal US release.
Burning Rangers was the same for me. It was the last Saturn game I use to get excited about looking at the screenshots for in magazines. By the time it came out Id already moved on to N64/PSX but I finally played it this past year. I actually just played it again last night. It can be tough to get into on first play but after a while its true beauty shines through. Short but sweet game.

Thanks for the hospitality guys . I live in Flagstaff Arizona but am originally from Arkansas. Correct you are on me getting the US version of Astal. I'm really digging it so far! Man, I can definitely get behind a few more games in the same vein. Think I might start importing some games now. I am pretty happy Silhouette Mirage was ported to the Saturn (my old PS version was stolen a while ago) so I can finally play through it. I have been on the fence about getting some of the Sat Capcom ports of Street Fighter and Darkstalkers because I have a few of them for my capcom cps2 machine, but damn that Street Fighter Collections looks nice! That $150 though... Ouch! Saturn Bomberman looks amazing and I would love the US version but I don't think I can stomach $300 for a Bomberman game, lol. What are some games you guys wish made it to the old Saturn? I think a port of Aliens vs. Predator (cps2) and the original Guilty Gear would have been outstanding on the Saturn. I'm sure both would fetch a lot if they were ported back in the day. Secretly, I wish they would have made Bloody Roar for it, lol. Have a great week guys!

Ive just gotten back into Astal in the last week. Certainly one of the if not THE best looking 2D game on the console. Also a great platformer. Different than most but once you get into it its got great game design. I think Silhouette Mirage is better on Saturn anyway. I know some who werent in love with WD version. Im just starting to get into fighting games on Saturn but between it and the PS1, you definitely want Saturn versions. The JPN games like Xmen vs. SF are cheap on ebay. Saturn Bomberman is tricky. It was only like $40 in 2008. Its one of the most increased priced games in the US library. Its too bad since its an essential buy IMO. But $300 is just not right. If you have game nights or gatherings with friends its totally worth it. Might be the best party game of that era IMO. Better than Mario Party which takes too long to play anyway. Bombermans singleplayer gets overlooked for being short or whatever but its actually excellent. The graphics are great too. As for what would have been cool on Saturn. Hard to say. I think more about what we got that shouldnt have been possible than what we didnt get. For example Quake and Duke 3D I didnt think were possible for many reasons but they came and were great. As an FPS guy I always was holding out hope Sega would have Lobotomy convert Shadow Warrior from PC to Saturn. The reason I had that thought was an interview back then with 3D realms saying it was possible after how good the Duke 3D port was. Its funny you bring up Alien vs. Predator. Maybe one of the most underrated beat em ups of that era in terms of reception. I never hear anyone talk about this game. It may be because there were so many Alien games including some with the same name but totally different genre. I personally maybe only played it once in passing back in the day. I can't believe a home release never came about. I guess a 32X version was in development but then was cancelled. Also one of the guys at Treasure cited the game as one of the inspirations for Guardian Heroes so look at it that way. AVP did have a Saturn presence in spirit.

Go for the Japanese versions of Street Fighter Collection and Bomberman, much much cheaper and language won't be an issue. Use an Action Replay to remove the region block. Silhouette Mirage will need that as well.

Man, you're probably right. But the U.S. long boxes look soo good together lol. A used game store in town has Saturn Bomberman for $250. I just can't do it for that much, lol.

...the original Guilty Gear would have been outstanding on the Saturn Well SolBadguy, I happen to agree GG for PS1 really surprised me back in the day (before GG became really well known from GGX2 onwards, even GGX wasn't that well known at the time). If Arc had've made it specifically for Saturn and utilised the 4MB RAM, I reckon it could have looked something closer to GGX actually. Still need to pick up Xrd at some point for my PS3. Capcom & SNK could (read: should!) learn a thing or two from Arc with regards to current gen 2D fighting games. Xrd looks breathtaking compared to SFV and KOFXIV. Oh... welcome to SSUK btw.

Thank you for the welcome NeoGeoNinja . It's great to see another SNK enthusiast! Do you play on AES or MVS? I'm an MVS guy myself. I still want an AES one day... I have played GG since the first one came out back in the day. I thought the artwork looked sooooo awesome back then. I was so surprised how many people had never played it. I am really happy to see it has a good following now and still getting sequels. I have only played Xrd once so far (I am waiting on their version of Hyper fighting to come out now. What is it, Revelator or something? lol) and was realllly impressed with the visuals and speed. Man, it looks sooooooo good...

I'll probably plump for a CMVS at some point for some of the less fighting-centric titles and MVS exclusives. At present, I'm a few titles short of a *complete* fighting game collection for the AES... but, as you can probably guess, rarity and price are the inhibitors preventing my having all of them (Ninja Masters, SSVSpecial being 2 that feel unattainable right now). It was pretty criminal back in the day that GG was so overlooked. The original was REALLY nice game and one of the few titles to come out of a stable that wasn't SNK or CAPCOM that I thought was an actual contender. It's still great now. Was never a fan of the instant kills though. Yeah, I was gonna import Xrd for my PS3 from JPN, but having recently learned that Revelator is also PS3 bound in the near future, I'll just hold out for that one instead. I have played Xrd though and, I have to say, it felt and played much better than *all* of 'those' GG XX variants. I tried BlazBlue too, but... it just didn't click with me (bear in mind, I started and finished with Calamity Trigger). I played ChronoPhantasma Extend at PLAY EXPO in Manchester last year and was left feeling the game has taken a rather shitty direction in terms of character 'design' and variation. Pretty pathetic.

Hello!
I've been interested in Burning Rangers but I think I may wait a while until I get it. The price of the game + 3d controller would be too much, especially as the game is supposed to be relatively short. I think at this stage, while I'm new to the console, it may be better to get a handful of titles with the same cash and pick up BR at a later date.
I hope you enjoy it though. It looks awesome. And that theme song is pretty ace.

I played ChronoPhantasma Extend at PLAY EXPO in Manchester last year and was left feeling the game has taken a rather shitty direction in terms of character 'design' and variation. Pretty pathetic. Man, I hear you on the prices on AES carts. I would LOOOOVE to have a shelf of AES cart to stare at one day*sigh*... I have a pretty nice MVS collection and I love having a couple of big red mvs arcade caps to smile at, so it's not too bad . I haven't kept up on prices lately, so I can only imagine how much some of them are probably going for these days. How long have you been into Neo Geo? I hear you on the instant kill headaches on the original GG. I remember when I first saw it I was floored with how cool it was... Than pissed how broken it was, lol. I remember trying to unlock Baiken for a long time. One time I got to Justice without losing a round, got her to about a quarter of her life bar on the last round, and boom! She spammed her super move until I lost the round. It was such b.s. that her super leaves you dizzy if you get hit. I was soooooo pissed I broke my pre dualshock controller. I FINALLY unlocked Baiken one day though. I was soooo happy and felt like I was pretty good at the game, lol. I really liked GG X and XX but was definitely burnt out on XX and all it variants by the end of the PS2. It was like Street Fighter 2 in the 90s for me all over again... I'll never forget getting a PS2 with Grand Theft Auto 3 and GG X for Christmas back then, and GG X got the old 'disc read error' every time I tried to play it! Brand new game. Brand new system! Luckily I was able to return it to Amazon and get a working copy. It was torture waiting on the new game to arrive though... Yeah, Blazblue... I didn't feel it click either. My friend bought the first one and so I would play it at his house. I remember only clicking with maybe three of the characters. I thought it was good, but... Uhh, it didn't jive with me. Something felt like it was missing for me. Maybe it would be better for me now that they have a few more characters? Got a favorite King of Fighters? Pumped for the new one?
