Ok so usually I dont just jump out and get 2 expensive releases in 1 shot but I couldnt pass up something I saw on Ebay last night. Some guy in Canada listed mint copies of both games in separate auctions with Best Offer. He accepted both offers which is not only rare but the fact is my offers were low and starting points if nothing else. Being as Im just getting into the JPN Saturn market can you guys tell me if these auctions looked like good prices? I mean on paper I feel like they are but just in case I missed something. Battle Garegga (Guy accepted my offer of $150 US) www.ebay.com/itm/182031445560Silvergun (Guy accepted my offer of $100 US) www.ebay.com/itm/182031448912Im super excited to have gotten deals on 2 of the more expensive shooters just as I start my JPN Saturn collection and I know BG has quite the reputation on here. The guy also had a Hi Saturn which he sold for 1000+

Given those prices are in dollars I reckon that's a good deal - we in PAL land would pay those prices in pounds sterling which equates to a higher price.

Ah very good. I figured deal was too good to be true but I guess it goes to show it never hurts to send people an offer.

Congrats.
Battle Garegga is not only my fave ever shmup, it's most likely the best shmup ever.
It's f*cking immense. After owning it for around 14yrs, it is STILL as immense as it ever was... every.single.time.
As for RSG... it's not really my thing. Looks the tits, but doesn't satiate my shmupping itch. It's something different entirely imo.

Battle Garegga ... it's most likely the best shmup ever. Nah, that's either Ikaruga or Gradius V, depending on whether you are into precision minimalism or a grandiose space opera. Battle Garegga is okay though. Certainly one of the most feature filled Saturn shmups I remember - doesn't it even come with a pre-recorded replay of a 1cc run? I seem to remember that for some reason.

Ive always been more of a spaceship shooter guy since I was younger so itll be interesting to see how my brain handles Garega. I liked 1942 as much as the next guy but the theme always held it back just a tad for me But a good shooter is a good shooter. I know what Im getting into with Radiant Silvergun. I have played it before. Its certainly a different type of game and not fair to lump it with other ones of the genre. More of a strategic game. Excited to give both proper playthroughs. I never thought I would own either of them so quickly in my JPN collecting but the deal couldn'tbe passed up especially the way prices are going.

Garegga and Silvergun are both excellent games and gorgeous on the Saturn. You did well. Looks like I paid $130 for RS in 2011. Not sure how much I paid for BG.

It's definitely not Ikaruga. It's a beautiful game but, like RSG, suffers from being a puzzle game underneath it all. Having said that, I'm massively Ikaruga > RSG. As for Gradius V... I CERTAINLY feel it IS the best horizontal shmup ever made. Period. However, I could never favour a hori shmup > vert shmup as my fave ever as, overall, I do prefer vert shmups on the whole.

Ikaruga can be played simply without touching the puzzle part, unless you go for the score, and if you play for the score then all shmups become puzzle games. But no other shooting game has such a tight design, both gameplay and level design wise, as Ikaruga. Even if you are not playing it for the score, the ingenuity of the system will shine through: the game revels in minimalism and yet remains exceedingly complex.

So the asking price for Battle Garegga was slightly under 400 bucks and he took you up on your $150,- bid. Not bad, not bad at all.

Yeah its hard to explain because there are 3 different currencies to explain. I bought it from Canada (Canadian dollar is 25% more than US Dollar). And then for most people here I try to put that into Euro/Pounds. So I think US dollars it ended up being 150/100 for the pair. Probably $265 USD with shipping. Normally these should go for $425+ USD considering the condition. Still a lot of money but hard to pass up when Saturn prices generally dont drop.

Nice price on Silvergun, Derek. I've never been able to find it for anything less than $AU170.
I picked up Garegga for about $AU20 a few years ago, which is probably like $US5.
