Hi all
I've got 2 Saturn's pals. Model 1 and model 2 bought an rgb scart from a custom cable site and cable works in my local games shop on their model 1 Saturn.
On my Saturn'stheres ghosting and shadows on texts and images on both my models it looks like an rf lead is plugged in.
I'm trying them on a 19" PC/TV monitor with a scart socket on back which says EXT (rgb) didn't output in rgb Tried on a Samsung 40" smart TV with the scart adapter that came with the TV didn't output rgb.
Also tried on 6 different TVs all didn't work even tried it on a 20" crt not working.
So I contacted the guy who made my cable and he said the port on Saturn could be faulty something about pin 4 not switching to rgb the pulse is not giving power of something I'll look for the exact email and post later so can this pin 4 be fixed if so how
Also he said my TV is not switching to rgb mode but I really don't think 8 tv s are the problem.
If my TV won't switch to rgb mode how can I do it manually or is there a secret menu for my TV/PC monitor which is a Samsung syncmaster 932mw
I've been searching for tutorials for av port pin problem for Saturn and any secret menu for my TV with no luck. I even bought a second Saturn thinking it was my TVs but this Saturn does it as well either 2 broken Saturn's or all my TVs ports are broke So any help would be appreciated thanks

Hi this is the exact email about the pulse
the saturn is not sending out the 5 volt pulse via pin 4 of the AV socket to pin 16 of the SCART plug. We fit a 180 ohm resistor between the 5 volts wire and pin 16.
This 5 volts from the Saturn is needed to switch any TV into RGB mode and if its not sent to the TV then the TV will only display in composite video mode.

If you've tried it on 6 different TVs between 2 Saturns and you're getting ghosting, it sounds like a substandard cable. Do you have any other cables you could try, even if they're composite or S-Video? When you tried it on a CRT and you say it's not working, do you mean you're getting no picture at all, or you're getting a poor picture? What was the website you you got them from?

The rgb cable works fine as I took it to my local games shop and it worked on their Saturn and HDTV.perfect picture but it don't have perfect picture on mine there ghosting and jagged edges on the S logo on boot up it looks like a big set of stairs lol. Sorry its the same picture on the CRT.I bought the Saturn's at the local games shop composite video works OK it smoothed out the ghosting and jagged edges I've even got an original official Saturn scart the one with the screw holding it together but no smoothing the composite is better picture than scart.
So custom rgb works at shop. Saturn's are OK on composite but rgb is terrible so in the email could it be a problem with pin 4 on the consoles as I can't see it been a TV problem

Depends what you mean by ghosting, HDTVs and Saturns don't generally mix, and there's lots of problems you may encounter.

Ghosting meaning 2 shadows behind text shadow behind characters jagged edges on Saturn logo the cable was tested on a HDTV in the shop with no problems that's why the email I posted said its a problem with pin 4 or something is there a fix for this. I can't find any secret menu for my Samsung syncmaster like other Samsung and Panasonic TVs have to maybe activate the rgb signal in my TV so I don't know how to fix my problem

Quite unusual that you would get that problem on two different Saturns, depending on where you got the RGB cable I'd be tempted to get another from elsewhere.
Not all TVs will have RGB enabled on all ports so be sure to double check that as well. Pop a picture up if you can, just to get an idea of how bad the image is.

Hi thanks for reply I bought a second supposedly rgb cable from eBay received it today. And I already had another one and also the official one. So I have 4 cables and 1 composite. Like I said the custom cable worked in the shop.
I'm going to take my Saturn and cables to the shop in the morning and have them test it and if it works OK then it must be my TVs. But surely all my TVs can't be not comparable. The 19" PC/TV monitor has all inputs on it. And the scart socket says EXT(rgb)
I will put up pictures tomorrow of the 5 scarts I have and show the ghosting and I'll do the composite cable as well
I'll be back tomorrow thanks again for all ur replies

Use a multimeter to measure the voltage on pin 8 of the SCART cable. Be extra careful to not short it out accidentally. If that pin is shorted, a coil will blow inside the Saturn and it won't output 9V at all, and without that the SCART cables won't be able to switch into RGB.
Are you using PAL or NTSC Saturns?

Right I've got myself a multimeter just need to work out how to use it as there's loads of settings. I will put up pictures with the ghosting from the rgb leads later

Right I've got myself a multimeter just need to work out how to use it as there's loads of settings. I will put up pictures with the ghosting from the rgb leads later You'll want a wiring diagram for the pinout of the cable, set your multi-meter to the lowest voltage (DC) that exceeds the expected output of the pin you're testing. So if its 9v, a setting of say 20v will suffice. Touch your multi-meter probes to the 9v pin and ground and you should get a reading.
It's a very cool piece of kit that I only started using when I wanted to figure out why my old SNES wouldn't power up. Very handy for things like testing fuses, power supplies, step-down convertors and testing for continuity. Be careful with it though, don't poke randomly as you will likely cause some damage.
