Much love for the Saturn but I can't see many people preferring that version to the 360/PS3 port, that seems to be the definitive home Daytona experience for sure.

Ah ok I see. That's odd, RGB SCART to component should be basically lossless so the image should be perfectly fine, unless the CRT itself is under the weather of course.
Anyway the FM is still pretty good, I always found its menus a little clunky, but once you get the hang of it and set it up there's not a lot you need to tweak. Just don't try to play Die Hard Arcade or anything that does the old 240p->480i switching as it's sloooooow as anything at that.
Arguably it still has the overall best game optimised deinterlacing so it's great paired with a PS2 too.

Hmm, well I hope you didn't pay over the odds for it. What kind of CRT? Standard consumer set, no chance, I don't even think it can output 15khz. Might help on a VGA monitor or similar I guess, particularity if you're only using a composite to VGA converter at the moment.

Haha that's my video from years ago, but yes that's what I was talking about.

This depends on your TV, forcing a PAL unit into NTSC gives a way off spec refresh rate that some TVs can't handle. Since OSSC only line doubles it has to pass this refresh rate through unaltered, therein lies the problem.
You've tried adjusting V backporch right?
If your OSSC works at 2x mode then that's exactly what the Rad2X does (well actually OSSC outputs full RGB but it hardly makes a difference) so nothing to gain there at all getting Rad2X.

The OSSC shouldn't default to pass through mode for 240p unless you changed it to specifically do so. If you're using a fixed resolution display, why would you do that?
Have you removed the switch from the equation to see if that helps?
What model LG is it specifically? On the C9, CX etc, you can set 4:3 or 16:9 regardless of input resolution.
Are you forcing PAL console to NTSC via means of a mod?

Yeah I doubt Saturn will ever be super accurate (PSX core isn't totally accurate especially regards sound but accurate enough for most people) but yeah a really great achievement.

Nope that's really a new one on me, Zyrobs?

I believe the battery thing was just a coincidence, I'm 90% sure it's the caps being old/worn that is at least part of your problems.
The cart slots are often picky on Saturns, IMO better to have a proper region free / modchip mod done and just keep an action replay in there rather than have to swap and change. You can also try putting a folded business card behind the cartridge to push it forward slightly that often helps.

it's like Zyrobs says then, most likely then the capacitors are bad/aged and needed to warm up. You do not need a battery in a healthy Saturn for it to power on.
I would still return the console personally, unless he's willing to give you a partial refund towards the cost of having it recapped.

If it's DOA I believe under EU law he has to offer to refund return shipping, so keep your receipt.

Generally yeah that's what they do, or allow for mutual recognition of standards to cut down on safety or sanitary checks etc at the borders. I don't think there would be duties on something that value though, I don't think they kick in until it's higher.

Don't confuse trade deals with the single market, a trade deal will still mean customs fees/handling fees etc at the EUs borders.

If you're worried about overspending a few Euro on a SCART cable you're going to love the rest of the prices on retro stuff these days Hey at least An Post aren't returning most packages now because Royal Fail can't get their electronic customs right.
