"PC monitor through an OSSC"
LCD or CRT? I presume LCD, but I'm weighing my options and love my light gun games!

I use a Sharp 40" LCD. It has component, SCART, and VGA inputs, has really good scaling/resolution options and looks, well, sharp. I have an XRGBmini and the results are absolutely spot on. I am very happy with my set up, I used to have CRT's for years, but this is the best solution for my current needs, and tbh I prefer it. Pixel perfection!

How different is the experience between using framemeister and the inbuilt scaler of the TV? I'd love to go the ossc or framemeister route, but I just can't face hanging up my guns just yet.

I can honestly say it makes a big difference. No matter how good a tv scales, a dedicated scaler just does a better job. I can highly reccomend the XRGBmini, and I'm thinking the OSSC is just as good an option. Plus the bonus of scanlines, I can't do without them.

Im seriously considering getting myself an XRGBmini but my HDTV has only one HDMI slot so would probably have to buy a new TV first. Scanlines never looked appealing to me though so not sure if I'd be satisfied with an upscaler. To me they're representatives of the limitations of technology of the time. I do have Game Mode option on my TV but never turn it on as I believe it makes the picture quality look worse. I take it there's am option to turn scanlines off on an XRGB mini?

scanlines are quite nice for 240p/480i content (or the equivalent PAL resolutions), it makes them look a bit smoother to my eyes. not sure why some people want scanlines on 480p content though ,as the whole point of progressive scan is to see the whole image.
the OSSC made quite the difference for me, the only thing to worry about is compatibility.

Yeah, you can turn the scanlines off. the games on the Saturn, pc engine, Megadrive, snes, nes, Neo Geo, all look better with scanlines and scaled correctly, it's how they were meant to be viewed. For me it replicates the look of the arcade 100% and that's what I'm aiming for. It's a matter of preference of course, but is simulating the effect of a CRT, and I like the fact I can have the image razor sharp, seeing every pixel, with exaggerated scanlines. Really does it for me visually speaking.

I can only go up to 3x on the resolution on the ASUS monitor i use, but I'm on the look out for a good 1600 x 1200 monitor as supposedly x5 works perfectly on it. PC LCD's tend to be a lot more resilient to the outputs of things like the OSSC

For light gun games, just get a mediumish TV you can easily store and drag out as needed. I have a 24" set that's under 100 lbs, I can easily toss that on a table. If that doesn't sound like something you'd want to physically repeat over and over, you can always size it to a small utility push cart on wheels and stash that combo in a closet or in a corner. There's plenty of those carts on amazon under 100 USD. Just search "utility cart"
90% of my Saturn gaming is with a controller though, so it stays plugged up to the HDTV.

Yes, you need to couple it with a suitable DVI/HDMI to VGA adapter, then it works fantastically. Light guns do not work however.
Scanlines were a hack using the technology of the time, but all graphics were drawn like that so, really they should be present in some form for 240p/288p material.
Do you care more about input lag or picture quality? Game mode almost always improves input lag, though rarely, if ever, eliminates it completely.
Depends on the content in question really, some 480p titles are just 240p content line-doubled anyway. Plus if you actually play 640x480 content on an old PC CRT monitor, especially one that can sync to really high resolutions, you will get scanlines there too. They tend to be thinner than your 240p style scanlines but still there.

interesting to know, would be cool to have tried it on my Apple Studio Display, if it still worked.

Do you guys get equivalent models of these TCL sets over in the UK? These are dirt cheap budget models here stateside, with incredibly low input lag and they apparently get along well with the Ossc.

Same, I just have a small 13” CRT I pull out for light gun fun.
