Hey all, I just got a model 2 Saturn off ebay, I had to clean it up inside before it would even spin but now it SEEMS to work:
It plays Battle Arena Toshinden URA perfectly fine.
But when I try Solar Eclipse it seems to start off fine, the cut-scenes play, it even plays the demo when waiting at the start menu but when you try to play the first mission it goes through the mission cut-scene and then fades to black and sits there, it doesn't even say 'loading'. The game disk appears to be in perfect condition
Otherwise it seems to be fine. Is it just Solar Eclipse or my Saturn? Any suggestion?

Disc in perfect condition? Sounds like the game has been rebuffed to me. There may have been a previous scratch on the disc that has been covered up. Rarely have I come across a US Saturn disc in perfect condition unless it's sealed. I take it you have a US Model 2 Saturn since you're playing Solar Eclipse?

Disc may have read issues even if it looks fine. Nero used to have a tool called CD-DVD Speed that you could use to scan discs for C errors, that could give you a good idea of how well it actually reads - not sure if its still available.

Hmmm, I didn't think about the disk being rebuffed. It is in suspiciously good condition for an original disk. Battle Arena Toshinden URA seems to be in great condition too. But now that I inspect it again there is a slight pattern on Solar Eclipse near the center of the disk that looks like a remnant of buffing.
Yes it is a US model 2, I need to find more games to test it with. Any suggestions?
