I have two queries I was hoping I could get some help with.
Firstly, my Pal Model 2 Saturn seems to have an issue loading specific games. For example, Guardian Heroes (Pal), original or backup, will sometimes not load up, or not continue loading after a level. It's the exact same issue with the original disc or a backup, including a backup that was not taken from my original disc (if that makes sense). The same thing happens with Batsugun and Astel. I've tried many different versions, both original and backup, but it would appear that the issue is with the game/s specifically? Any idea why this might be? What is it about these games that would cause a predictable error whereas other ones always work fine?
Second question. I've bought a replacement laser to try and fix the problem. The description on eBay said: "The laser is electrostatic, no need to use a soldering iron to clean and protect before installation", however, it has the blob of solder in the corner, which every youtuber removes. Should I go ahead and remove the solder and just ignore the description on eBay?
The blob of solder is the electrostatic protection, you have to remove it to use the laser. Don't forget that you'll need to calibrate the laser, otherwise it may perform worse than the old one.
If you are getting crash problems with both originals and CDRs it's not impossible that the problem with the console is not the laser. Laser issues tend to result in the game dropping back to the CD player. If your motherboard is a VA9 then the aging caps alone could cause issues like that.
