I'm sure this has been asked many times before, so I apologise in advance, but I was hoping for some more recent and up-to-date solutions. I currently have something like this, but it makes quite a high pitched electrical sound when not in use and also gets quite hot, so I find myself unplugging it from the power each time I'm finished playing, which isn't ideal, to avoid burning the house down. A friend of mine suggested something like this as a better solution, but I have no idea which of the many options to chose from. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any suggestions are appreciated.

You can't use a power supply like that with the Saturn unless you swap out the PSU for an after market one, which unfortunately a lot of them aren't designed terribly well. It's actually normal for a stepdown to get a little warm, what's wrong with just shutting off the power when you're done using it? If your sockets are out of reach get something like this - www.espares.ie/product/es1815996?

Thank you for your reply.
I guess I was being too hopeful there, I thought he may have been a little presumptuous with that suggestion.
The only reason I can't switch off at the wall is because it's behind a cabinet and I have an extension lead with six other devices plugged in, so I have to just unplug each time. I can live with it, just wondered if there was a better solution, that's all.

Your other option if you don't want a 3rd party PSU is to swap in one from a spare PAL console - consolemodguides.home.blog/sega-saturn-psu-swap/Honestly though those 3rd party PSUs are probably okay as long as you get them from somewhere reputable, not just any old one on AliExpress. I'd still stick with the regular Saturn PSU if possible though.

Oh haha, that article was written by me, but for some other site, someone copied it. Well, I think it made it into the MAME source too so no wonder.
Yeah either use that guide, or one of those Saturn PSUs on ebay that take 12V DC input. Both requires changing the internal power supply. Or just use a stepdown converter.
