Hey all,
Recently, my Memory Card Plus bit the dust (due to my own meddling) and I was wondering what everyone here thought of the various cartridges availible which double as both memory cards and region bypass cards. I replaced mine with an Action Replay, but I was pretty surprised to see that it does not enable saving which is a massive bummer considering the lfespan of the cell battery. Not only that, but I miss how the Memory Card Plus doesn't have any weird startup screen, and simply gets to the Saturn main menu. All the same, it was a really finicky product that sometimes just didn't read.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a replacement with similar functionality, while maybe being of a better build quality?

Yeah the Region Free bios is great, then you can use any cart you want and not worry about it.
That said, I have stuck with the standard Action Replay for a while though and I am curious to know what people consider the best cartridge to use these days. I've already got the region free bios installed so don't need region free booting but not having to manually copy saves would be a nice thing.

The Action Replay doesn't support saving from games. But - you can copy system saves from the console's storage area to the AR to back it up. Means you won't lose those files when the battery dies - you can change the battery and then copy the files from the AR back to the console.
Fiddly but it's a workaround if you don't get your console modified.

Yeah but aren't there some homebrew carts that get round that?
I'd need that plus the cheats menu, don't have the patience to play Rayman without infinite lives lol.

AR carts can be flashed with new firmware. (called Pseudo Saturn? Not sure).
I think it allows backup discs to be played. Not sure about direct saving. Would be a great all-in-1 solution if it enables that!
