I am a Two-Spirit Menominee person from Wisconsin. I would really like a Saturn and am planning to save up for one within the next few months. I am currently playing through other methods.

I have suddenly fallen in love with schmups in my late 20s. (I have now hit the big 3'oh, and don't cringe at the way I spell that, please. ^Lol.) I especially like cute ‘em ups. The Saturn has originals and arcade ports in abundance of both the broader category and more specific category I have mentioned. This is a whole world of games I was never really exposed to.

I am hoping to play some of the Twinbee titles and am currently in the process of trying my hand at Cotton 2. I had a surprising amount of fun with Purikura Daisakusen.

On another note, Grandia is the shiz, but with all the endless reading in University, my hyper-exploratory bad self will have to wait until break to relish all of the quirky character dialogue and interactions with the game. (And oh man, is there a lot of it.)

I miss the days of forum posting, and while this place does not seem like it is bustling with constant activity, I like the vibes here. For whatever reason. ♡

Welcome, yeah it's not terribly busy here these days, but I still find myself checking in quite often, why not eh?

Both Cotton 2 and Boomerang are 100% worth playing. Cotton recently got a bunch of new games on modern systems too that are also very good.

I want to check out Boomerang as well because I heard while it is ostensibly the same game as 2, it has a lot of different features, characters, and changes up the dynamics quite a bit, so thank you for reminding me of it. These titles make me really want to get a Japanese Saturn, because even though ports now I exist with the Nintendo Switch Saturn tribute, I want to play the OGs. Time for me to get a job!!

Yeah, same. There is something magical about forums. It's like a lost age. Generally speaking, with some exceptions, my most substantive conversations have always been on forums. Customization/individuality is lost on a lot of the big social media pages (though you can do a lot with, say, Tumblr, but I am getting off topic here). Add in how overstimulating most social media is, with non-stop ads, cluttered sidebars, "click here, click here, click here," notifications for five different things at once... it's overwhelming and makes my head spin. Here, it's like... oh, inbox. Oh, a reply. Perhaps I am glamourizing because I was still prone to compulsive checking when I was really into forums. It just wasn't as bad. Everyone and their dog is on Twitter. A smaller, niche community is on forums, and I think that's the way I like it.

Boomerang is more like a remix of Cotton 2, it ends up playing quite a bit differently and is well worth tracking down. I suppose these days it would just be launched as a DLC content but there's more than enough differences to make it stand on its own.

As for getting a Japanese console, it's usually cheaper and more convenient to simply find a modder who can fit you a region free BIOS. There are lots of great modders in the USA could do that for you. There's also the option of cartridges that unlock region free capabilities but I much prefer the BIOS route then you can just use the cartridge slot for the action replay and get cheats and memory expansion etc. Cotton 2/Boomerang take advantage of the 4mb RAM expansion.

You should check out the Parodius games too.

Parodius Deluxe Pack has the 1st 2 games in the series on 1 disc. (this got a PAL release too - but not in the US).

Parodius 3 aka Oshaberi Parodius came next  (JP only)

Then the series ended with Sexy Parodius. (JP only)

They all play like the great old game Gradius but graphically they are cute and whacked out.

Buckoa, I am just curious what is the benefit of the region free BIOs if you have the AR? With the AR you can play JPN games already, I guess outside of the ones that need special RAM carts
