Can light guns work in multi tap unused slots?

Background: I have my sega Saturn wired into a jamma harness and put inside my 1980’s vintage street fighter ii champion edition arcade machine. Right now if I want to play light gun games I have to unplug the controllers and plug in the light guns. This usually involves either reaching blindly in the coin door or pushing it away from the wall and opening the back. Not very convenient.

Question: If I buy a 6 player multi tap, can I leave the guns plugged into player 3 and 4, and have them work as normal? Or is that not going to work? I’d rather not spend $50 to buy a multi tap just to find out it doesn’t work, so I’m hoping someone here can try it. Thanks!

It will depend on how the game is coded. I suspect the games will look in port 1 and port 2.
