Hi, I just bought an used Sega Saturn from eBay (which was offered as "rarely used"). I was a pretty good deal since the offer also included 9 games for together about $40. Unfortunately, the Saturn does not work As soon as I turn it on, the "Access" light is blinking and it does not read any disc. The games are in very good shape (no scratches). I read a few hints and already tried to replug the drive cable and cleaned the lens. I tried to see what happens when the console wants to read a disc, so I left the Saturn open, bridged the "close contact" and turned it on. The laser unit is working, but the motor is not spinning. Now, I`m wondering if this is normal? When the Saturn is checking a disc, does it spin up directly from the beginning? Does anyone maybe have an idea what I can do? Is it maybe possible to change the motor of the drive? And why does the Access light blinks right after turning on the console? Maybe some IC is broken? cheers, Glow

hey welcome Anyway> First the Access light is normal. This is the same on my Saturn. The second You Cleaned he lens?..Use some qtip with Alcohol. The Cd doesn`t spin?...that’s a different story. Take out the Cd-rom drive. First watch the YouTube tutorial for this. The Dreamcast gd-rom and Saturn cd-rom are both the same. www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTgpWACBYYwLOOK OF THE CABELS THAT CANECT THE MOTOR WITH THE LENS ARE NOT BROKEN. Check every connector and cable!!! Het last: Look at the CD drive where the game discs go. Off to the left just a little bit is a little device. It looks somewhat plastic. But you’ll notice that it has a little lever that can be pushed in. Once you’re sure you know where it is cleaned it….This thing must be punched in…that keeps the motor go on. Be sure that this happens when the sonsole is closed!!!

hey,
thanks for the reply. I already used alcohol and a qtip to clean the lens. But looks like I missed the lever for the motor.
Also thanks for the video. Reminds me of the pot tweak for the PS1 and the GameCube. I will try that when I come home today.
I'll keep this thread updated.
cheers, Glow

Hi, I just double-checked my Saturn drive again, I am not able to find any separate lever for the drive motor itself. There is only the LID switch which will be pressed as soon as you close the top loader. I also tried adjusting the laser, but no luck. The discs wont be recognized. So, just to be sure: it is normal that the drive does NOT spin up when you insert the disc? It will start only when a valid disc is detected? I made a photo of my drive where you can see the LID switch, and the POT for the laser tweak: cheers, Glow
