Hello fellow SS fans,
I was really happy to find this site.
I would like to hook my Sega Saturn up to my PC monitor and would like to know if any of the VGA boxes out their will be compatible or not.
Don't know if it will make any difference, but I have a white Japanese Saturn like in the picture below.
I am thinking about getting this one for my Dreamcast, and it would be brilliant if it works for me Saturn too! ↓
Thank you

There is no easy way to do this, and it's kind of pointless really. The DC knows a VGA box is connected and displays in high-resolution because of it. The Saturn can't do this, if you somehow connect a VGA box, the picture won't look any better then a Saturn hooked up to a standard SD TV through RGB.

I wasn’t really looking for high-resolution, I don’t have a TV available and just for convenience I would like to connect it to my monitor. If it matches the same quality as a TV I would be very happy.
Do you think it would work if I connect it up to that DC VGA box? My Saturn has the composite cables, I don’t think you can get the scart cables to connect to a VGA box.

Well that VGA box appears to have standard composite inputs, so it should work for your purposes.

Well that VGA box appears to have standard composite inputs, so it should work for your purposes. That's a composite/svideo OUTPUT. That box (I have one on my DC) is designed to allow your DC to output either VGA or TV at the flick of a switch (on the side of the box). The only input is the DC AV connector, and it won't hook to the Saturn in any manner.

Get one with a 21pin RGB input, as it should give you the best possible picture in theory. I have no idea what kind of encoder it uses, but RGB is the best you can get out of Saturn.
Micomsoft Products are usually really good, and would be the model I'd choose.

Just wondering if I used the AV cables the Saturn comes with and put them into a 21pin RGB adapter then into the XAV-2s box, would it effect the quality? I think I might have made a mistake in buying the XAV-2s. It has a 21 pin input that is fine, but it does not seem to have an output to connect it to my monitor. It has a 21 PIN IN, 15 PIN IN, L and R Audio OUT and S OUT. I wonder if the 15 PIN IN is actually a 15 PIN OUT and I need to buy some sort of adaptor to convert it to a normal VGA cable. Something like this cable to the normal VGA cable, but it does say 15 PIN IN, so it most likely won't work. If I go with the AV out put maybe this cable would do the trick, but I would just need the Yellow, White and Red cables.

Anyway I think I needed the XRGB-3 which is nearly 40`000 yen or 200 pounds. That is far to much for me to spend, so I think I might give up on the idea for now. Unless somebody has a better idea ;D

I picked up this VGA box quite cheap and it seems to do the trick. I give it 8 out of 10 when connected to a Dreamcast and 6 out of 10 when connected to a Saturn as the picture isn't as crisp and a little faded.
