Hi, I just got a saturn model 2, and did the modification so that it believes the lid to be closed. I have executed the swap trick with a few games, Shinobi Legions and Guardian Heroes, and all of that works fine as expected, however, none of the games will work past the start menu. Like, I'll choose new game in Shinobi, black screen, and in Guardian heroes nothing after the opening fmv. I burned them at x4 speed using daemon tools after using sega cue maker to make a cue file for the iso and wav audio files. I'm sorry for just barging in and asking for help, but I can't figure out exactly what the problem is. Thank you.

Not all CDRs are created equal. Cheap ones are useless. You could have corrupt image files. Also your laser could be dirty. I haven't played a CDR in about 7 years, but when I did I burned them 24x or so and never had a problem. Some burners just work better then others. The best solution? Buy real games.

Thanks, I did buy some decent cd-rs, but I will try burning these games over again at 24x.
And I will be ordering some actual games as I find them.

With old consoles, it's best to burn the CDRs at the highest speed that does not use zones. If you watch the write speed while the disc is burning, it should be either constant, or smoothly changing. If you ever see the speed suddenly jump faster, it's doing zonal writing and the disc probably won't work. For example, my external Slim DVD SuperMulti Writer starts at about 10.5X writing, then at about 250 MB it jumps to 16.5X, then at about 325 MB it jumps to 22.5X, etc. So when I write CDRs in it, I set it for 10X and it writes at 10.5X across the entire disc. That works fine on my SEGA CD, Saturn, and Dreamcast.

I had the same problem with the Shinobi and GH CD-Rs. I never did get them to work with the swap trick. Try some different games.

Black bottomed CDRs work beautifully.

Hmm when I backed up all my originals onto disks since i have the boot disk and dont need to damage with disc swap or mod chip, I ALWAYS burnt it at 8x speed. I was told that's the best and every game I've burn works for me :S
Apparently the slower it is the better.
I use SUPER cheapy verbatim disks and tescos own brand (Us brits know that that's cheapest of cheap)
