how much was the cost of one credit in the USA ? I can't remember cause my brother and I were 12 but it was probably 50 cent (half dollar) in the US. I think this was about the time when 25 cent was no longer sufficient. It may have even been $1. The only place that had the machine was a rest stop along the highway in New York State in the middle of nowhere. We'd go nuts playing it every chance we got when stopping there. Oddly enough I didnt know they made a Saturn version back then or else we would have certainly put it on the birthday list Luckily years later I bought the Saturn version and we destroyed it.

I remember when i was young and my parents said that these arcades are a total waste of money so they didn't sponsored my gameplay much.

Yes I always felt bad begging my parents for change or coins to play an arcade game for 20 minutes. It usually ended up costing $10 or so but the memories I have of playing games like Area 51, Die Hard Arcade, House of the Dead etc can't be replaced

If he spent $20 to play through it, then a credit likely costs $1. I don't think any arcade games had credits as high as $1 back then. A game like Die Hard Arcade would almost certainly have been 25 cents. A number of games had credits for 50 cents at the time, but those were ones with light guns and/or specialized cabinets.

I think DHA in the US was 50 cents at least. I remember by that point most larger arcades were gouging a bit. The 25 cent machines were all but gone.

just played dynamite cop on the dreamcast. had the game for quite a while but had never been bothered to try it until reading this topic. man this is truly a sequel in every way. it improved in every way somewhat and it even more cheasy. it's also a bit easier I think. if you like die hard arcade well worth trying. will try it soon in multiplayer

At the time where I lived it was half a dollar per game on the Die Hard Arcade at Aladdin's Castle. I remember when my friend and I played it to the end, we spent most of his birthday money getting through the game, lol. His mom was pretty pissed. My parents would usually give me $5-10 if they left me at the arcade and as I got older I usually spent my saved money. By the the time I was in high school must arcades had become: Cruisin' USA, Cabella's Big Game Hunter, and Hydro thunder. Maybe Area 51 if you're "lucky". Those games felt like cancer to me when I would find a new arcade anywhere...

Solbad you helped me confirm 50 cent was likely the cost on DHA. I only vaguely remember but you certainly helped verify it a bit. Although its certainly different at all arcades. I resent you call Area 51 cancer! My first favorite light gun game. And even despite having the older sprite based graphics, very playable on a Saturn to this day.

Lol, sorry for the Area 51/Maximum Force diss my friend! I honestly liked them for the great cheese factor and thought they were pretty fun but liked Time Crisis and House of the Dead a lot more. Sadly never saw Virtua Cop in the would . Everytime I would go into a new pizza place back home I would always coss my fingers and prey for a Neo Geo, Street Fighter, or Sega arcade. Area 51 must have kept the lights on.

I see what you were getting at. Area 51 to me was the last tolerable sprite based light gun game. It was just about time for games like VC, Time Crisis and HOTD. A51 had the B movie cheese mixed with solid action. The secret rooms put it over the top for me at the time. Honestly Max Force didnt do it for me. At that point Id rather play Virtua Cop or Time Crisis for a similar theme.
Like you I almost never saw a Virtua Cop Unit... perhaps I didnt look hard enough. Area 51 was the most common you would find. House of the Dead luckily I would run across as mini golf places. Had I seen VC1 or VC2 in the wild I would have certainly given that a go.

Well, I guess it's about time to hunt one down on Craig's list! It would REALLY tie the living room together !

Man, I have been really getting back into this game lately. I finally got to go back to my home state and dig through my old stuff and found my copy of Die Hard. I reallllly love beat em' ups and feel like this one was often forgotten. Man, I forgot how hard the robots in it can be. I hate it when they spam that damn laser! I also get my ass whipped by the big green foot ball player boss. Any tips?

Ha funny you brought this up. I popped in DHA myself last night for a quick 20 minutes play and just love the damn game so much. One of the best looking polygon games to me still on the system. Very colorful. But yes you are also right about the robots. Id forgotten how hard they were as well. That is actually where I stopped playing for the night

My memory's a little vague here, but don't you have access to a beam weapon in the fight with the robots? As I recall, a good way to tackle that fight is to use the beam, since it allows you to hit the robots even when they're not horizontally aligned with you (meaning they can't hit you with lasers).

When I recently played DHA, I actually cleared the robots with incredible ease the first time round. Basically it involves running straight at them and relentlessly pummeling them before they can fire. Easier said than done, as the second time round it was harder and I lost a life or two.
