I backtracked a few pages but i couldn't find a post on the Arcade Racing Wheel. Need some opinions on it.
I don't have it, and i've never tried it. But i have the option to pick one up in mint condition for $15 with shipping. But i wonder, are they even worth picking up? They look very...i don't know, cheap? How do they handle compared to the standard controller, and can they even be screwd on to a table?

There's no gas pedals, so playing racers is really REALLY awkward on it.
I never gave it enough time though to really tell if I liked the steering or whatnot. The lack of foot pedals was a huge turnoff for me. All I know is that I played my shmups with it... lol... now that was an adventure!

It looks cheap but the wheel is a very sturdy piece of equipment. It's base is a large metal plate with four suction cup feet that can be used to anchor it to smooth flat surfaces (tables etc). Both it's angle & length can be changed to suit smaller or larger players. A stiff lever on the back is used to unlock the hinge at the base of the wheels neck so the angle can be changed. A twist lock is located just behind the wheel itself to allow length adjustment. both locks must be released to allow adjustment then repositioned after.
The wheel is designed to be used in three separate positions: 1. On a flat surface in front of the player. 2. Sitting on the lap of the player. 3. With the thin part of the base pinned between the chair & The players thighs so the wheel's neck pokes up between the legs. (though this method was meant to be used by younger children too small to use the first two methods effectively so it looks very silly when an older player tries to use the wheel in this fashion)
& no the lack of pedals never bothered me.

Very good, thanks! I've used quite alot of wheels in my days, but never a wheel that you used loose in your lap. It sounds like it would be impossible to play that way, but i've never tried so i might be surprised. =)

I'm not sure you will be surprised at all. Generally speaking, the Saturn wheel is a perfectly useable and durable piece of kit... but the shape of the wheel and lack of pedals is just mind boggling! Why no pedals sega? Every shit third party wheel for every console I've ever had has at least had pedals

The arcade racer works wonderfully for Sega Rally, Daytona USA and CCE, Virtua racing, and Wipeout. Not bad on High Velocity. Not good on Touring Car (but nothing short of the 3d pad works well on that game and even that is questionable). I've had the Arcade Racer since it was released and never had an issue with it. Love it.

Does anybody know if the wheel will work with the SONIC R game? The control with the d-pad is frustrating when I play and I really want to enjoy this game a bit more.

I played Manx TT last night and liked the Arcade Racer better than the 3d pad or the regular controller. If I get a chance tonight I'll try out the AR on Sonic R.

No go on Sonic R. Wouldn't even recognize the AR at the title screen.
