I doubt that is a picture of the official controller as it has no Sega branding on it.

That has a different shape to the official controller if you look at this picture here: www.axess.com/twilight/console/detail/saturn_a.htmlMaybe a third party made the controller and paid Sega to be allowed to use their name on it? I always assumed that the Australian Saturn was the same as the European one as they are both PAL regions.

I'm pretty sure at the time of Saturn SEGA's distributor in Australia was a third party, wasn't it?
Perhaps SEGA gave them permission to do their own peripherals!

Got the first one, it's not official and it's bad. Really bad. It got turbo buttons on the backside, which are razor sharp and you can scratch your fingers if you aren't careful. Totally pointless controller when both the offical controllers are among the best ones ever made.

Nope like previously said these aren't the australian official controllers, well at least not the ones that actually came with the console. The ones that were included with the console are the same as the USA and European ones. They might be officially sanctioned third party controllers or something =P

I have both those pads, they are 3rd party pads but unlike many others are licenced by Sega.
As has already been said, the official Australian pads are visually identical to the official PAL and US ones.
