Decided to plug in my beautiful mint japanese Saturn, just to try it out. Instead of using the S-Video i connected it with the scart cable i use with my modded PAL Saturn. I get a picture, but it's blurry and it looks like it have static disturbances. First i thought the console was breaking down on me, but it works great with the S-Video.
Is there a difference between japanese and PAL scart cables?

That's just...ASS! Not that i will be using my JAP Saturn much when i have a modded PAL. But still...it's annoying. So all you ppl are playing your JAP Saturns with S-Video?

I'm using my Japanese Saturn with a UK RGB SCART cable. Works fine.

Wait a sec, i am using a UK RGB Scart cable on the Japanese Saturn. But it is a third party cable, not an official one. Might be there the problem lies.

Could be that. Could be your TV. Could be your games even. Are you playing Japanese games on your Japanese Saturn or are you using an import cart to also play European ones on it?

You're right, it was the TV. Tried it on my LCD and it worked. No strange "static" effect. Crappy picture ofc, but all my Saturns look crap on that TV. Gonna try it on my other CRT TV tomorrow.
Thx for the help mate!

And for the record there is no such thing as "Japanese SCART." SCART is a PAL term only. In Japan there is 21pin RGB and 15pin RGB. The term SCART does not exist here.

Hrm, tried it on the other CRT TV. The picture quality is good, but there's still some of these static like small white dots comming and going all over the screen. It's not as bad as my other CRT TV. But it's not perfect. Gonna try it later on one last CRT TV, and if it's still bad then it gotta be the cable. Will keep an eye out for official Saturn scart cables.

Never mind, problem solved. It was the third party cable. I have so many Saturns laying around, and twice as many cabels so i have a hard time keeping track of 'em all. I took a dive into the rats nest that is my gaming cable bag and found an official Saturn SCART. Tried it, and it worked perfectly with the JAP Saturn.
So todays lesson is: Do not buy third party crap, SEGA original stuff ftw.

Sync voltage output by JP Saturn is not the same as a UK Saturn and is *just* by the skin of its very teeth, disliked by certain UK TV sets. You will need to buy a UK Scart designed specifically for the Japanese saturn or open up your scart and hack it :< Bizzare though, seeing as how composite video can also be used as sync you'd think most TV's could just take and use that!
