I'm a massive car nut, always have been, and i've loved my racing games, but i have to say, Touge King the spirits, is simply one of the most awesome games i've played, its actually very challenging in "powerslide mode", and i've been perfecting my drifts, fuck this fast and furious and need for speed crap the kids are playing these days!

Never heard of it.
I'll have to check it out. I like 32-bit racing games.

All I play are Japanese imports (My Saturn's Japanese) so I'm all set.
I'm supposed to get a modchip as a prize but it hasn't come yet. I'll do some research. I might just buy it if it's cheap enough.

fuck this fast and furious and need for speed crap the kids are playing these days! What's always bugged me about those racers is the very little skill they require, and the way they're constantly shoving these pathetic "hip" themes in your face. I can't stand those kind of boy racer themes, with all the smexy ladies and rap music in the background. I certainly prefer the 32-bit arcade racers. One of the many reasons I love the Saturn is that the racers manage to pull off a "more is less" kind of approach with racers, and you're able to spend hours on end playing games with just 3-4 tracks =) As for Togue, I had heard of it before, and seen some gameplay, and it does look pretty fun. What's the price like? And is it common?

Its common on ebay, around £7 shipped uk thats like £4 for game plus 3 shipping, i got mine in a local store for 7, but yeah its worth it, gotta get the sequel, i've always been mad into jap games i still spend too much money on maximum tune at the arcades lol, and i got the ps2 and ps3 versions of it, but still nothing beats the classics, GT5 on the ps3 is a quality racing game and it does require some skill

^ I'd definitely check this out (along with its sequel) if you like racing games. The only downside I can think of is the fact that you're only ever racing against a single opponent, which is a shame. Never-the-less, it's still an enjoyable racer and I've also spent many happy hours enjoying the excellent 2-player mode with friends - so if you can get yourself a copy dirt cheap, I can't see you regretting it Yart.

This game is known as High Velocity in the west. It's been one of my favorites since its release and for some reason has gone under the radar of many Saturn gamers. I've always had a problem mastering the drifting but I've always played with the arcade racer which makes the cars handle like a bus (unlike Daytona and Sega Rally in which the handling is spot on with the arcade racer). Perhaps I'll give the 3d pad a shot with this title. The sequel looks even better but plays pretty rough. I haven't put much time into it though and have read that with tuneups the cars handle even better than in the original. Please elaborate on powerslide mode! Perhaps I've missed something or its an option not included in the US release?

Here's an extract from a May '97 report on the sequel's cancelled US release, from Next Generation:
"Atlus has disclosed that it will not be working on any future titles for Saturn in the coming months. While it was investigating the possibility of bringing Togue King The Spirits 2 to the US in the form of Togue Racing, Atlus wasn't pleased with the quality of the game."
The same article then goes on to explain how Atlus had chosen to drop all further plans to support the Saturn, including an English translation of Devil Summoner. However, its sequel was still being considered as an outside possibility if the end product surpassed internal expectations...
