There's not much discussion of Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV on these forums, which is understandable, I suppose, since it never got a PAL release. But hopefully at least one person here has made their way through this game? After digging through half of the hefty manual, I figured I'd better get a playthrough started so I could have some perspective on what the directions are talking about. This plan seemed to go pretty well. The game's interface is very smooth for the most part, though the load times for every time they bring up a portrait seem a bit much. I enjoyed myself creating four characters a lot more than I thought I would. The menu was pretty overwhelming at first, but by carefully going through each of the options and consulting the manual at the same time, I soon got a rough idea of what they all do, and an idea of what role some of them have in the game. I even took control of an unclaimed city. With that, I ended my turn. And immediately both of my cities went into revolt. This has me utterly baffled, since before ending my turn I checked the Support rating, and both cities had very high Support at that time. Their Support instantly plummeted from ~80 to ~25 upon the end of my turn. Nor had I done anything that is supposed to lower Support. To make this really scary, I was playing on the easiest difficulty mode. I guess it's time to go through the manual with a fine tooth comb...

I have a copy but the UI is so impenetrable for me I couldn't really understand what I had to do.

I played the hack out of this game back when it was released. Haven't touched it since though. I recall enjoying it quite a bit. I used to grab all the Koei games I ran across. It started on the Genesis with PTO and Operation Europe then PTO II and Romance on the Saturn. Never could get into Heir of Zendor though.

Did you ever get better or beat the game? I have been trying to get through the game and am having a hard time. Did you ever have good luck recruiting generals and making progress? I've been watching youtube videos of the PSX port and a few other guides, but feel like I am moving along reallllly slow. I am trying to get through the game with Lu Bei right now.

This is one series I could never really get into. I did pick up a copy of this for Saturn finally after alot of years. Looks like it could be something worth a play now that Im slowly getting more in sims and strats.
Speaking of non PAL games that I havent seen discusse, Hercs Adventures is a title I finally got for Saturn last week for a great price. I remember it being well reviewed upon release but only now am I getting around to it.

Woah, it's really been over a year since I gave Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV a try? I am so far behind on my Saturn gaming. Sadly, after the original post on this thread I put aside this game for a bit and have yet to get back to it. What happened was I ran into problems saving in Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV and Prisoner of Ice (both games which occupy the Saturn's entire internal memory with one save), and once I'd worked the problem out with the help of the good folks on this forum, I decided to give Prisoner of Ice priority since it is clearly much less time-consuming. And once I'd finished that game I was having a hankering for something less brain-intensive, like Crusader: No Remorse... I have been meaning to get back to RotTK4 ever since, but I've got such a load of games on my to-play list, and one after another has taken priority. Right now I'm just starting to dig into Nancy Drew and the White Wolf of Icicle Creek for the Wii (very appropriate for the winter season), but hopefully after that I'll be ready to hunker down and puzzle out how to really play RotTK4.

Man, I really wished they did a port of Nobunaga's Ambition for the US on the Saturn... I like Romance of the Three Kingdoms III on the Saturn, but I have a hard time keeping up with all the different characters on this game due to the name similarities. I always felt stronger with Japanese history and characters. I really liked playing Nobunaga's Ambition on the SNES back in the day, but never finished it before my character died.
