I am noticing that the main character sprites in lots of my games are flickering when thy move, and sometimes displaying horizontal lines through them. Doesn't seem to effect polygon based games.
This is on a PAL mk1, with a switchless region mod , running 60hz. On some games I am using a Pseudo Saturn flashed action replay cart.
Does anyone know why this might be happening and what a solution could be? Is it a hardware fault, or maybe a cable/ TV compatibility issue?

Some PAL games don't work right in 60hz and vica versa. That could cause such problems. There are also three SNK games that get graphical glitches on 4mb carts like the action replace.

Sounds more like bad deinterlacing, you using a HDTV?

Sounds more like bad deinterlacing, you using a HDTV? Yes it is a OLED HDTV. Is there a solution for that? I played some Japanese games that have the flickering sprites, so don't think it's the 60hz problem.

You need to buy a proper, 240p aware scaler like an XRGB.

You need to buy a proper, 240p aware scaler like an XRGB. You were right about the flicker being related to the HD TV. I've bought a cheap and cheerful scart to HD adaptor and it has mostly solved the flicker and stripyness problem. However the lag between button press and action is now heinous. Is the xRGB Mini the best option for no lag, or is there something better?

Most of those SCART to HD adapters have similar sprite flicker/ghosting/lining issues.
The up and coming OSSC (open source scan converter) will be your best bet, it's lag free (leaving only the lag on your HDTV) and as long as your TV upscales 480p well it will work great.

Any news on availability and price?

Get below converter as well as PAL RGB Scart cable for your PAL Saturn. CKITZE BG-460 HDMI/SCART PAL System to NTSC HDMI Digital Audio Video Converter and connect the converter to your OLED HDTV via its HDMI input. For the price the improvement will be huge.

That's a little pricey for a generic converter, I can't imagine it does any better job than the HDV 8S converters.
