Just bought the PAL version of Myst. It's coming all the way across "the pond" from the UK. Now I own the American, Japanese, and PAL versions of Myst!

As much as I hate bumping a thread, I feel like I haven't asked my question clearly enough, not saying that any of you don't understand me. Pretty much, I want to know if the PAL version of Riven supports multiple languages (English, German, French, Spanish, etc). Now according to Satakore.com, PAL Myst seems to support those 4 languages listed above, but doesn't state anything on Riven. Also, considering I don't want to install a 50/60HZ switch in my Saturn, I am also curious if the FMVs in both games might a little faster than normal, if the game was PAL optimized.

Just got Jurassic Park: The Lost World for $11 from my local retro game store. It's in perfect condition, but it's missing the back insert...

I've spent a good part of my afternoon tearing through the 1st episode of Alien Trilogy. It's good to see the Saturn actually get a good port of a PSX game.

Hey superdeadite, when you get a chance boot up the JP game, go to the options menu & tell us what the version number is. Then we will know if they added mouse support for the JP version or removed it for the PAL version. The PAL options say "Version - V3.08" Just checked my copy and it said "Version - V3.11". So it seems like the Japanese one came out after the PAL version. This really isn't on topic, but something I was always curious about with 3D Lemmings is if they kept all the Jelly Belly references in the PAL version. Because all the Jelly Belly billboards are removed or replaced with Perfect Entertainment billboards in the JP version, and many of the candy levels were renamed from their original names in the PSX version. The back of the PAL box also seems to have a screen capture in game of the Jelly Belly level screen too.

Sometime in the future, I would be interested in buying the Saturn version of Riven. However, considering that Riven is a game full of text and speech, I'd like to know if different versions that were sold throughout Europe have the game dubbed into the language where the game was originally sold? I know that the Japanese version was dubbed into Japanese, and the Brazilian version was dubbed into Portuguese. So if I bought a copy of the game from Germany, would it be dubbed in German? Or are all European versions in English only?
Also, how would the game run on an NTSC setup? Considering the only English version for the Saturn is in PAL format.

Would the Saturn Mouse support all versions of the game? I have both NTSC-U copies of Doom and Myst and there is no mention of mouse support in the manual. However, my NTSC-J copy of Myst does mention mouse support in the manual. No, the Saturn version of 3D lemmings does not work with a mouse. it's a shame too as it's my favourite way of playing the PS1 game. That's weird, the instruction manual of my Japanese copy of 3D Lemmings says it does support mouse control (It has a diagram of the mouse in the manual). Are you playing the PAL version? Maybe the PAL version doesn't support mouse control, yet the Japanese version does.

I just ordered Alien Trilogy for $25. Considering that I loved the PSX version, getting the Saturn version seemed to be a no-brainer. WoW 25 USD for Alien Trilogy ? This game in PAL verison goes much more cheaper... I could have got it for cheaper, but I wanted a copy that was with the case and manual in VG condition. Plus all the cheap copies on Amazon.com only had the disk in a plastic sleeve, which with the mail service I've been getting lately (with disc's unseated from the spindle at arrival), I wanted to play it safe.

Why do you want to start a PAL collection? The reason why prices are higher for PAL are because not many copies were printed. The Saturn was not popular here at all so games released in 1998 especially were fairly scarce. It's not an exaggeration that some stores only got 3~ copies of some games and never restocked. We also have very few retail retro games stores so ebay is the main source and there people can artificially inflate prices (see Mortal Kombat Trilogy). And then you have the problem of people not taking care of their games and viewing them as literally disposable further reducing the pool of available games for sale. Compare that to Japan that has a thriving second hand retro games market with proper retail presence and people who look after their belongings. It's night and day. I actually figured that's why PAL games were more expensive, but like others have said, the Saturn in Europe was more successful than here in America. I've also been able to pick up many US Saturn games for very cheap amounts of money (I only payed $9.95 for a brand new sealed copy of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3). I guess the availability of games is probably the major factor. I'm not looking into making a huge PAL collection, I'm just looking to get many of the games that were never released here in America that I really couldn't get in a Japanese format, like Wipeout 2097, Riven, and both Discworld games.

I wish that someone would just write a decent FAQ on the Saturn version! As the box art says, it seems like the Saturn version is a Special Edition, and is different from other versions of the game. For example, the first level on the Saturn version consists of 3D models, while a video of the DOS version that I watched on Youtube seemed to have 2-D sprites and a completely different boss.

Is it only me that thinks this?
Considering that I'm searching Ebay for games to start a small collection of PAL games, I can't seem to come across any for less than $15. The only games that are seem to be Sega originals (Like Virtua Cop and Sega Rally Championship) and American sport games (NBA, NHL). Am I just being cheap, or am I going to have to shell out big bucks for a PAL collection?

Does anyone know if other FPS have similar issues saving, too? Does Duke Nukem, Quake, and PowerSlave have enormous files that cannot be saved to the internal memory? Nope. All the games you mentioned can be saved on the internal memory just fine. I've actually been wondering if I should get a backup cart for my Saturn because of Hexen. But I'm not sure if messing around with a backup cart and an Action Replay will wear out my cart slot.

Just got my ass kicked by Mortal Kombat II. It's still an awesome game though.
