I recently bought a 4 in 1 Action Replay cart (it claims it has a 1 or 4 mb RAM expansion) because I thought it might come in handy if I ever buy any of the games that requires me pimping my Saturn with some extra juice. I think I mentioned this in the "post here everytime..."-thread.
Now I wonder: Which games are they? I seem to recall something about Darkstalkers 3, King of Fighters ('95 and/or '97 I suppose) and Metal Slug. But there must be more. Please, enlighten me. I want a list, cause I actually feel inclined to buy at least one game that takes advantage of my awesome new cartridge.

Going from memory, not a complete list:
Games that support 1mb RAM: Marvel Super Heroes Cyberbots Cotton 2
Games that require 1mb RAM: Metal Slug KoF '96 KoF '97 Waku Waku 7 Samurai Spirits 3 Samurai Spirits 4 Real Bout Garou Densetsu Groove On Fight
Games that require 4mb RAM: X-Men VS Street Fighter Marvel Super Heroes VS Street Fighter Vampire Savior Street Fighter Zero 3 Final Fight Revenge Astra Super Stars
Note, KoF '95 and Ultraman require actual ROM carts. They will only play with the original cartridges they come with.

Doesn't Astra Superstars require the 4mb? I'm fairly positive about that one. Also: Samurai Shodown III = Samurai Spirits: Zankurou Musouken Samurai Shodown IV = Samurai Spirits: Amakusa Kourin Exact same games, just the proper Japanese titles.
LOL, I forgot Ragnagard was ported to Saturn. That game is such a piece of shit.

Thank you both very much! No sweat about KoF '95, since I don't really like the game anyway. It's ok, but nothing I'd consider buying. Just to cause some more trouble; which of these games are RPG's or the like, i.e. close to impossible to play if you don't know any japanese whatsoever? You could just send the list again with an asterisk or something at the games that are japanese, dialogue-driven and not fighters or shmups or the like. I could check 'em all out on after another on the internetz but that'll take days, and since you sit there with all your knowledge, please share

Another question btw: What about the US games, like Marvel Super Heroes? Do they support the RAM boost as well, or is it just the japanese versions that does that?

And, yet another, more specific question: Is the japanese version of King of Fighters '97 compatible with the 4 in 1 Action Replay cart? 'Cause I found it kinda cheap on tradera just now. But no use to buy if I can't play it.

As far as I can remember the US MSH neither requires or supports the expansion.
As far as I know Xmen Vs Street Fighter is the only game that has any serious compatability issues with the AR 4 in 1.
...feel free to correct me on either of those folks....

Oh. Hell. This is weird, and awkward.
I just took my old 3 in 1 (or so I thought) card out, and replaced it with the new 4 in 1 one (since this procedure can harm the slot if done often, I wanted it done as soon as possible so I could stop worrying and play on) and I discovered that they both look EXACTLY the same. They also have the same built-in cheat codes and all.
I know for a fact that my new card has ram expansion since it was boxed brand new and all, and the box says it has, but I'm afraid my old card is the exact same. Which means I might have wasted good money on "nothing" (I can sell the old one of course, but still). My question now is: Is there any way to tell, just by looking at the card itself, if it has the ram expansion function or not? They both say Action Replay 4M plus.
This scares me... Damn it scares me.
Edit: I'm quite sure what happened now. In 2001 or something, when I ordered my 3 in 1, the company got it mixed up and I got a 4 in 1 (I got no box back then). Since then I've been thinking I have a 3 in 1, but it's been a 4 in 1 all along. Well, I'm fine with it considering my new one is brand new, it was sealed and shit, and therefore should last longer. I'll use the new one exclusively from now on.

Sell the old one on eBay, half the time they go for more than Rob Webb sells them for new!

US Marvel Super Heroes does support the RAM cart, just like the Japanese release. But it isn't an advertised feature since the carts were never released there.
X-Men VS Street Fighter works perfectly fine on a US Saturn with PAR. I think its actually MSHvsSF that has problems, and its only on PAL Saturns.
Most all of the RAM cart games are fighters and mahjong games. Cotton 2 and Metal Slug are shooters. You shouldn't need any Japanese for the majority of them.

There is some discrepancy here, bizzarely a while back on... hmm possibly assembler a few people reported JAP titles that used extra RAM working on JAP saturns but NOT region modified PAL units.
Could anyone here confirm or deny this?!

I've not heard of that before, not had any issues on my region modded model 1, but then I barely have half the titles on that list.

Yeah, I haven't heard that myself. As far as I know, once you switch those pins around (whether they be 50/60Hz switch, or region switchs) they should be pretty much 100% compatible with the other region's software.
Only thing I've heard of were 50/60Hz glitches between different region games (on non-50/60Hz-switched saturns), but that's not really the game's fault, per se.
