US Marvel Super Heroes does support the RAM cart, just like the Japanese release. But it isn't an advertised feature since the carts were never released there. X-Men VS Street Fighter works perfectly fine on a US Saturn with PAR. I think its actually MSHvsSF that has problems, and its only on PAL Saturns. Most all of the RAM cart games are fighters and mahjong games. Cotton 2 and Metal Slug are shooters. You shouldn't need any Japanese for the majority of them. I've been googlin' around some swedish gaming forums now, and they seem to claim that the opposite is true (i.e. marvel vs. street fighter works great with AR 4M Plus but x-men vs. street fighter lags and shit). I think I'll go for Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, just to try. If I buy a japanese Saturn, can the action replay "port" PAL games on it? They will either way run too fast without a 50/60 hz switch I presume? mick: Nah. I actually think I'll hang on to it until I buy a japanese Saturn. Which I might do, sometime later this year. Right now I have like 95% PAL games and I don't wanna mod my PAL model 2, so I'll just stop buying NTSC games until I get a japanese machine, so I don't need a damn 50/60 hz switch. Since my model 2's been working for so long it feels like I'd be pushing my luck if I tried to mod it.

So whats the score with PAL titles?
Was there any offical UK release titles that required extra ram? As it does seem alot of the tiltes people are mentioning are non PAL titles.
And am I right in thinking if you have the Action replay it allows for both types of RAM 1mb and 4mb and also the ablity to boot up non PAL titles.

Like the US, I'd suspect that Marvel Superheroes would "unofficially" take advantage of the 1MB RAM (I say unofficially because the RAM cart was never officially released outside of Japan). That's correct, though the AR cart will do nothing about the slower gameplay or the black borders of 60Hz games (which is ALL JP or US games, not to mention a majority of UK games as well) -- you have to physically modify your PAL saturn in order to be able to play the Saturn games at full-speed/full screen. In addition, there are models of AR that do not have the 1MB/4MB RAM expansion built in, but I haven't seen those in a loooong time. I think pretty much all the new ones these days have the RAM expansion in it. Just make sure it's a 4-in-1 Action Replay cart if you're going to get one.

Cheers that all makes sence. I got the 4-in-1 White AR verson 2.2 or something like that. Although If I was to expand my game catalouge to Jap games I think Id just have to buy a White Jap Saturn Im mean it'd be rude not too wouldnt it lol

That's the way I went. I started with a PAL Saturn + AR cartridge btw - Xmen v Streetfighter works fine at 50Hz. It was the 1st import game I bought. I have read that Marvel v Streetfighter glitches at 50Hz.
The PAL version of Marvel Super Heroes allows you to use the extra RAM, but it only seems to allow the use of extra frames in the animation - it doesn't appear to improve loadtimes between fights.
I now have a white Saturn for import games though I also use it with the AR to play those PAL games that benefit from 60Hz (which seems to be most of 'em). I intend to rebuy some of my PAL games (Parodius Deluxe Pack, VF2, Rally etc.) so that I can remove the need to use an AR with the white machine.

Good topic....years ago I bought a game and didn't know I needed extra ram...frustrating waiting for the ram cart.

Quick question for those knowledgeable about Waku Waku 7 out there: I tried playing this game with my Action Replay (since I lack the 1MB RAM cartridge) and it was choppy compared to the original Neo-Geo version of the game. I don't only mean gameplay, but the menus and the opening intro too (which I mistook as FMV because of the chop at first).
If I had the actual 1MB RAM cartridge, would the slowdown stop? I'm playing this on a 60hz Saturn on a 60hz screen.
