Not sure if anyone has asked this before but how big are the Backup Memory carts?
Also, do they run on a watch battery as well or are they flash memory?
Just curious as I recently bought one as my Saturn collection is growing fast.

The official Backup Cart hold 512KB, this should be more than enough for general use.
The internal memory only holds 32KB of saves.

The official one does, some of the 3rd party carts have an internal battery, in some cases one that's soldered to the pcb!

Blimey, that's quite a substantial amount of save space compared to the internal space. Also, good to hear it's flash memory. I generally wanted to know whether or not I could actually keep my saves on it forever (so-to-speak) as the internal memory relies on the watch battery. Some saves I don't want wiped!

Theres a guy in the states that makes a USB link system that amongst other things allows you to backup your saves onto your PC.

Okay, the backup cartridge is in my console. When I go to system settings I still can only select internal memory! Am I doing something wrong? I basically wanna move all my saves to the cart but I can't see how I access the cart in any way! EDIT Ignore my stupidity. The cart needed some cleaning and a little patience. I forget how old these things are. Working fine now

Kink of off topic but Hexen is a memory eater.
So much so that you can only have two saves (if I remember correctly).

Any confirmation as to whether the gameshark 4m uses flash or a battery? I just got one NIB so I'm a bit hesitant to open it up just to see, but I just may have to. Don't want to risk losing my Panzer Dragoon Saga saves! lol

Can you use a Japanese backup cart on a North American Saturn?
