Alright guys, I've got some leftover money from the holiday season and I've been playing a lot of Saturn, so I decided to beef up my Saturn library and get a game or two. I've narrowed it down to Burning Rangers and Guardian Heroes, but I want to hear your guys thoughts on them. I'm getting US Burning Rangers complete for $65 shipped, and I could get Guardian Heroes US for $70 (not including shipping).
I've heard good things about Burning Rangers, and from what I've seen (and I've played a little bit of the Japanese tutorial), it looks like a really great game. Am I making a good buy here at $60?
I'm also thinking about getting Guardian Heroes in the near future as I've also heard great things about this game, but I did read a review on the Video Game Critic's site, who claimed that although the game looked good, it played poorly and wasn't worth the money.
What do you guys think of these games?

personally I'd go with burning rangers, it has that sonic team game-play of never getting old no matter how many times you play.
I didn't mind guardian heroes but it's nothing more than a basic 2d side scrolling button masher with some very "simple" rpg elements.. Maybe it's me but I don't know, doesn't seem to be worth as much as it sells for imo.

Personally I think that Guardian Heroes has a great amount of depth for a beat'em-up, 6 different characters, rpg elements are simple but that's enough for this type of game, multiple routes (I don't remember if there are 5 or 6 different endings), and aside from story mode you can play versus mode which plays like any 2d fighter (with simpler system of course), difference being the ability to put 6 characters in simultaneous battle, variety of game modes and characters (more than 40, you can play with literally anyone you meet in the actual game) and it also keeps a record of number of fights, wins and losses for every character and player (you can register few profiles).
It's not worth the ebay price (hardly any game is worth that much) but nevetheless, great game. Remember that at the beginning the game may seem pretty hard, it took me a while to complete it for the first time. The biggest flaw for me was that you can't skip the cutscenes, watching a 2 minute long "plot explanation" in the middle of a game for the 20th time get get boring...

Its up to you really. They're both good games but are both overated so don't expect too much . Guardian Heroes offers alot more depth and better replay value than Burning Rangers. But Burning Rangers is a lot more fun to play. Get both

Burning Rangers is a must and I'd get Guardian Heroes too.
Guardian is a lot of fun but BR never gets old for me!

Am I the only person who didn't "get" Guardian Heroes? Sure, I played the later Advance port like mad, yet back in the day the Saturn original was receiving a lot of positive attention and I just couldn't understand why (though you can probably blame Panzer Dragoon Zwei for much of the diversion). On the other hand, I feel that Burning Rangers is still criminally neglected - especially in contrast with NiGHTS, which did ultimately reach modern audiences TWICE in very different guises... By the way, I should just point out my problem isn't with Treasure as a developer. I've racked up stupid amounts of time with Ikaruga especially, though incredibly nothing compared with my other half's achievements!

I feel the same way about it, it's a good game, improved dramatically by multiplayer, but it just doesn't have that certain something to keep me coming back. I think of it as a modern Golden Axe, which is a lot of fun but after extended play the limitations start to show. Burning Rangers, however, doesn't seem to get old. It helps that it has the adaptive level design, so that no two play throughs will be the same. In truth, though, it really needs this feature as it's quite a short game.

Personally, I believe you should get BR first, though I'd try to find it cheaper than that, say around $35. The only game I've ever considered paying $60-$80 for was Radiant Silvergun.. but the final price of $447 was a bit too much for my pockets... or sanity.
Of course get GH, but don't rush into the first one you see, I got mine for less than $20, so just keep an eye out for that bargin!

Well, I decided to get Burning Rangers first for $60, and after playing the first level I am satisfied. The game seems to be a really good game, but it does have some camera and graphical issues.
I've decided to wait out on Guardian Heroes, see if I can find it for cheaper before I go and buy it for $70. Hopefully I'll be able to find it for a good price.

There is a lot of vocal text in BR as each level has a navigator telling what to do, what to press, where to go and so on. You can try and work this out yourself but you will seriously regret it. I wouldn't recommend it as some levels are extremley hard. Plus theres a fan mail in the game which is always nice to read so if your a non-jap you won't get the benefit of that. So I'd say 'NO' it's not safe to pick up the jap version

I can get the Japanese version for ~£17 but the english version seems to be run at about £60/£70 (with shipping from US which is the only place Ebay is showing it). Is it £40 of annoying or can I enjoy it enough skipping the text? (If so is there a guide to follow anywhere?).
