I have a gray Model 1 Japanese Sega Saturn. You plug it in, power it up and everything looks to work just fine. The disc drive spins, you can hear it reading the disc and so on. BUT, no video on the screen. When you turn the Saturn on the video on the television flickers for a moment, but then it just stays black. I opened it up to look for anything obvious - anyone have any idea of what I can replace or look for? It has to be an easy fix if EVERYTHING else work perfectly.. ;/ Help is much appreciated. Thanks so much!

What kind of video cable are you using?
Have you tried with another cable?

Its just a regular AV cable. The AV cable and power cable are definitely 100% working. I tested the same cables on my other US Saturn (I actually just retested them AGAIN 10 seconds ago to make sure) and they work perfectly.

What sort of AV cable is it? SCART, Composite, S-Video, RF?
Are you absolutely sure that your TV can handle the signal from the Japanese Saturn?
Are you getting any sound at all? (ie. the bootup sound)

It is Composite. I am absolutely sure that my TV can handle the signal from the JP Saturn.
There is no sound, or video. Just a simple flicker when you initially turn it on.

Yeah, any tips or advice from anyone? Is there by chance a cap/video identifier out there, maybe I could just replace all the video caps or something. It seems like it would be something of that sort.

My first port of call, as always would be the power board, do you have another you can swap out and try?

That was my initial plan but the power board and power plug are different than both the other saturns that I have, so I don't have one to swap it out with. *facepalm*
Anywhere I could buy one or anyone have any junkers that they want to sell me?

I managed to swap a couple things on a US power board to make it work in place of the potential broken JP power board. I installed it (definitely working) - SAME PROBLEM. It does the EXACT same thing as before..
So yeah.. Definitely not the power board. WTF could it be?

It has to be a video cap or something. Is there any cap replacement charts in the Saturn Community? I just need to identify all the Video Caps on a JP Saturn and then I can replace them and I bet it will work. Something like this:

Really wired problem. I Found out that my Victor works with Composite but dont work with RGB You have to mod your JP/NA Saturn to accept a PAL scart iirc. I don't remember the site where I saw the mod. Hopefully someone who remembers or knows the mod will read this.

Maybe it's a North American issue then, I know none of mine work. I had bought a transcoder for my Genesis & Neo Geo Home System and when I tried my Saturns with a scart it didn't work. Now I'm going to have to search for that damn thread ;D Here's one thread but not the one I'm looking for www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=218631&highlight=saturn+scart
