That V-Saturn has a VA1 board, right? 20pin cd drive connector, separate joystick board, memory reset button on the back?

Yup, that's a VA1 alright. Thanks for confirming.

Site updated, now ~1500 entries online. I've also finally figured out the V-Saturn serials, so they are now properly sorted.

Is that printed on the lid or is it a sticker?

Thanks as always. I'd like to ask you to check: - if that v-saturn is a VA2/3 machine (it should have separate controller ports and a 64pin drive, you can just use a flashlight to look behind the laser, should say ENR-011A left to the laser ribbon) - if any of the HST-3200s have a Hitachi cd drive (these have a smaller CD tray plastic, the bottom right corner doesn't have any black part, see for example: evilboris.sonic-cult.net/saturn/serials/HITACHI/MMP-1/BC_5_0_002975_(1).png ) and a big one: - check the one with the BC40007940 serial for *anything* suspicious? EPROM bios, PLL (ic20) still marked as Hitachi, Hitachi cd drive instead of JVC, any of the custom chips not labeled 315-x, or labeled with ES? Also, the dates on the inside of the plastic cover. It has a pretty low print number so it might have some early components; Sega tends to re-use parts from their prototyping phase in production units. I have a machine with the serial B40004930, a similarly early one, and it only has an odd PLL (early hitachi labeled one, they are all supposed to be labeled with Sega 315-x numbers). Also the plastic is dated 1994 October. But your is from a different manufacturer, so the dates & everything else might be different, may be even earlier. There were only 2 major manufacturers for the HST-3200 units... If you don't know how to check these, basically just take a ton of pics from the inside, with the chip labels readable. If it has any oddities, I'd probably buy that one machine regardless of whether it works or not. (in fact if it doesn't work, one of the reasons it might be broken is that it uses an EPROM bios that suffered bitrot)

Okay, thanks for confirming.
By the way if you want one of those drives, they seem to be the most commonly found in MMP-1 hi-saturns. HST-3200 models (ones made by Tokai-denshi) have them too but very rarely. And just like with the sanyo drives, there is no way to tell this from the serial, only by visually inspecting the drive.

I meant, if you are collecting different type of units and want to grab one of those too. There might be laser replacements for those too - the drive is pretty rare, so might be that no one bothered to check for that so far.

Thanks again. Nice catch with that PAL unit, it's an early one still using model 1 guts. For PAL units, those have better picture and easier modding.

Does anybody have a manufactured in 1998 US Saturn? Pretty sure none were made. The machine died in the US the earliest. The last "made-in" dates I have are 1997 March for US saturns, 1997 September 27th for PAL saturns, and 1998 July for JP saturns. Interesting. 670-6294-30 or 670-6473-30 type? With or without trap board (marked 171-7412C on top, 837-12959 on bottom, connects between the cd drive and the saturn)? None of the other BF7Axxxxxx machines you submitted have a sanyo drive?

Thanks for confirming.
If it's not even spinning up, it's possible that it's not getting any power, or it isn't connected properly in some way. See if you can connect it directly to the motherboard bypassing the trap board, I have an older model sanyo drive that works even without the trap board. I don't know if its healthy to bypass it or not, but if your machine works that way, then we know that it's the trap board that isn't getting any power.
