Based on visible artifacts in the teaser included with Shenmue II, it seems that footage of Shenmue Saturn Version was sourced from a videotape and may have been resized to represent the actual game resolution, which is believed to have been the system's standard display mode of 320x224. Also, due to AM2's previous association with CG studio BuildUp (see the pre-rendered introduction made for Virtua Fighter 3), it's possible this clip was also modified in post-production, though I'm not entirely sure this is the case, simply because the frame rate seems quite realistic, especially compared with similar titles, such as Panzer Dragoon Saga.
Anyway, to answer your original question, to date no playable - or otherwise - builds of Shenmue have ever surfaced in public on the Saturn, though a few years back it was claimed that 12 copies are known to be out there in the hands of Japanese collectors. Even though a low and exact number was mentioned, it seems this unlikely when you consider that by now at least one of those should have leaked already. With only a small handful of journalists even aware that Shenmue (still known by its various working titles, including Virtua Fighter RPG, Akira's Quest, Virtua AD and finally Project Berkeley) was even in development prior to its announcement as a Dreamcast game, any code probably never left AM2's reach... just like other cancellations from the same period.

big shame would have been good if they actually had made but just never released the demo.
that is one thing with the net a pinch of salt is needed sometimes.

It's bull shit. It never left Am2's offices. If there is something out there then I'm about 900000% that it's almost unplayable as a game. No one know show far along it is and if you believe some random idiot on a forum with 15 posts and no pictures then i guess you'd believe me if I said that if you sent me all your japanese saturn games and consoles you'll get a million pounds posted to you after i receieve them.

lmao true true but he isnt the only person on the net that says playable betas exist. in fact what he is saying is its quite bad and they are trying to debug it. but yeh it could well be bullshit but the development companies real, and at the end of the day a whole lot of shit that is suposed to be sealed away from the world isnt and in fact its just in the hands of ex employees that have acquired them over the years. loads of rare betas ect. there was a bloke on ebay just the other week who was selling official sega saturn silver development discs. all official with all the laser embossing on the discs. he had 4 including manx tt ect. so they are out there it just depends on the person who took them in the first place.

That's a one in a million shot though, the game was never released to any media anywhere, the only people who would have seen it is internal AM2 members and the sega execs. It just won't happen. Other betas are possible because they;ve been shown to be released. This on the other hand is different, Yu Suzuki isn't your average guy, he's a perfectionist and I gaurentee you nothing beta-ish would have gotten out. It's just not feasable.
