have had a look at that guide, i have no soldering experience but either way the part of the modding id be unsure of would be the ' cut the connection at the red cross' bit. Any ideas how this is done? ( thanks in advance)

Carefully with a sharp knife or a tiny file.

Those are VA5 machines. That hardware was used both in model 1 and model 2 cases, with minor modifications (few components removed in the model 2 case, like the LED). Look for guides telling you how to install the chips in 64pin machines.

Look for guides telling you how to install the chips in 64pin machines. Damn! The guide for 64 pin ones seems much more complicated - www.racketboy.com/saturn-modchip/model-1-install.htmi sent pictures of my 3 saturns to rob webb and he said any of the round button machines would be fine to install his chip but im not sure he actually had a close look at the pics to see the inside, i did explain i was a novice etc though and the installation on my boards just looks like i'd end up fucking it up

That guide is for VA0/1 machines, with the 20pin drive. It's complicated because those machines have a different pinout entirely, so you have to solder a lot of things.

Im gutted TBH, Have you tried taking the 5V directly from the PSU? It's easier to check the continuity that way. You should also check the flat cables, they only have connectors on one side.
