Sometimes I forgot to connect the green power connector from the board to the cd unit when modding a Saturn. But for the modchip installation there is no need for disconnecting it in the first place so probably that is not the problem. If you have several Saturns try to use the cd unit of one of your other Saturns in order to find out if the mainboard or cd unit might be broken.

I bought one off Rob £14, paid for it yesterday, it was on my door step this morning. Top service will fit it tonight or tomorrow. How did yours work out? Mine was also delivered pretty quickly, but I haven't tried installing it yet. This is a diagram for the new version chip, but I'll need much more clarity before I try to connect it.. I have a JP saturn, grey casing with oval buttons.. What do? Attachments:

Oh what the heck now.
I was one of the testers for the pre-production chip and Rob told me that the final chip will be identical because it works so well. And that chip indeed worked for *every* console I tried it with, with 0014 and nothing else connected (and I have something like 7 different cd drives out of 10 or so, with the last 3 ones being so rare that you'll probably never encounter them).
But if the final chip is different, guess I'll have to buy a bunch.

I found a guide for it here! www.segastyle.com/model1V3.html

I've tested the final chip, and:
- for 20pin JVC drives (ENR-007B or ENR-007D), either connect the 0019 pads or do not connect anything
- for 21pin JVC drives (ENR-011A, ENR-013A, HQA-001A), connect the 0014 pads
- for the 610-6185-30 Sanyo drive, the chip does not work. It probably needs extra connections to be made on the chip, which I didn't bother with.
The pre-production chip I got from Rob back in the summer worked on ALL the above drives, in the 0014 position, without any other settings.
For the Hitachi JA00292 drive, Sanyo 610-6294-30 drive, and Sanyo 610-6473-30 drive, I couldn't test any of the chips because I don't have any such machine (if you have one, I wouldn't mind buying).

One question for anyone who's modded a Saturn, or any system! What can I use for wire? I don't want to buy a 50-foot spindle just for a 9-inch section. Is it okay to cut some wire from something, like headphones, and use that?

Not headphones... if you have an old USB cable for something you dont need that's a good source of appropriately thin wire.

Is it okay to cut some wire from something, like headphones, and use that? You can but about 5 metres of single core wire off e-bay for about 99p inclusive of p&p charges. I know because I recently bought and used some.
